Sort of? Demonizing women, sure, but the whole "tits on the billboard" thing isn't exactly puritan.
This is so ridiculous. Every mother I have seen breastfeeding in public is always trying to be as discreet as possible about it. Their focus is feeding their hungry child NOT flashing their boobs to everyone on purpose. At most you might see a nipple for half second, and if seeing a person’s nipple is the worst thing…
If it’s the law that women can breastfeed where they like, this woman should sue. Until then, what’s stopping any store from not bothering to educate their employees on this if they aren’t facing consequences?
For me, the weirdest part of this story is how she asked for permission, was granted permission, and then immediately had that permission rescinded after feeding had commenced. The clerk was handed the perfect opportunity to give directions to the restroom and decided instead to wait until it was really too late to…
You linked to two unrelated articles. I’d love to see some real research that shows that people’s aversion to public breastfeeding is because of their fear of bodily fluids. All you showed was that people have an innate dislike of dirty things (shitty summary on my part). But breast milk isn’t a bodily fluid like…
It amazes me that there are still people in North America who haven’t gotten the memo that it is entirely legal (except for in Idaho and Puerto Rico) to breastfeed in public. A mother can have her tits out anywhere, with a baby hanging off of them, uncovered. Deal with it, puritans.
Being a mom is the greatest thing a woman can ever do... just don’t do it in public.
Don’t even get me started on the issue people have with women’s nipples. I’m busty but there are dudes with bigger tits than mine that can walk around freely without a shirt.
I nursed my kids 17 months and 21 months. No one ever said a damn thing to me... which is a little bit of a shame because I had some zingers lined up...
I had an old male doctor make a crack about a woman feeding a newborn in the corridors of the hospital. WE ARE A MATERNITY HOSPITAL! If you can’t breastfeed here- where can you?
The USA has a higher rate of mastitis than countries in which it’s more socially acceptable to nurse. I've had it a few times and it hurts more than a serious flu. Pain from every muscle and a strong malaise that feels like a come-down on top of a delirious fever. Fuck idiots. I want to advertise myself as a nursing…
Breasts as sexual objects? Put that on a billboard. Breasts as life-giving milk to a newborn? You should be ashamed, cover that up and get the hell out you monster.
Yeah people who think it’s that easy didn’t have a kid who would scream and refuse to nurse if you tried to cover them. Some babies don’t care, others hate it. Mine needed to stare at my face the whole time so she would rip the cover off as soon as she was able.
I guess the best takeaway from this is that it took 18 months for anyone to say anything which means it’s fairly uncommon for people be assholes about breastfeeding. My mom breastfed three kids in the mid-to-late 80s and she’s told me no one said a word to her ever.
Often dressing rooms don’t have anywhere to sit, because in theory you are an able-bodied individual, going in to try clothes on.
Who wants to think about breasts when bra shopping?
Even better: Make that employee eat her lunch in the bathroom. You know, where people shit. I’m fairly anti-kid, but even I know that you shouldn’t have to feed your baby in there. Because your baby shouldn’t have to *eat* there.
