Some of the Porsche tax can be avoided by buying the parts for Audis or VWs (they share a few) when possible. You just have to some extra cross referencing.

Its also bigger than the older cars. I have a 986 S and its tiny compared to the 718. It also has a flat 6 and the only safety nannies on it are the airbags and ABS; manual transmission, hydro power steering, no traction control, no PASM, no monthly payment. I see no reason to downgrade to a 718.

My wife’s daily is a 986 Boxster S. Plenty of storage space in the trunks for groceries, 40 pound bags of pool salt, etc.
