I absolutely agree that there is less catcalling! I didn't realize how bad catcalling could be until I spent a summer in NYC. THAT was bad.

Even in Kansas City that's the case. Which is no surprise to me, but I'd assume it'd be a surprise to coastal folks.

I mean, I'm as cranky as the next Missourian that should I need that service, I'd have to cross State Line. But it's not like our city is some conservative wasteland.

We don't have to go to St. Louis. Overland Park is much closer.

I think our city is doing a lot to be better than the rest of the state. Honestly I'm extremely excited about it! I'm a native and have felt for years that KCMO is on the verge of being something awesome. Lately it seems we're finally taking steps to actually get there.

Oooh ooh this is my city. From what I can tell, BikeWalkKC is pushing this. A few weeks ago they sent out a survey asking about street harassment. I answered it very honestly, and it seems a lot of others did as well because now we have this!

I feel like everyone being like "WHAT YOU'RE CRAZY WHO DOES THAT NO ONE" just adds to the problem. There should be an open dialogue about this topic. There are different levels of abuse, including mutual abuse. It's something that should be talked about, not shut down.

I'm honestly quite shocked you're getting so many surprised responses. While I don't necessarily agree with everything you're saying, I know PLENTY of women who have slapped their significant others. Is it wrong? Absolutely. But it fucking happens.

That is essentially how I made all of my friends in art school.
