This is getting fucking ridiculous. Yes, rents need to be controlled so people can’t hike the every year and make cities unlivable, but there is nothing inherently immoral about owning properties and renting them out at a fair price. I’m dizzy from the amount of times I rolled my eyes reading this idiocy.

Amen - there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the Bell-Shepards owning some apartments. In fact, as rental housing stock in LA goes, you’re much better off having a celebrity couple like them for landlords (they’ll fix things, if only to avoid bad press) than some real estate investment ghoul like Steve Mnuchin who

Probably because so much of what passes for being progressive online is taking ideologically sexy but wildly unrealistic positions and then shitting all over people who don’t match those positions 100%

Yeah I thought that was really weird to have here. They took the step when so many corporate landlords aren’t doing shit.  Like why are they being called out here?

I have no issues with Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard owning a building and I think they’re being really good landlords by not charging rent for April. It’s decent and I wish my apartment complex would do the same.

Yeah, I’ve dealt with their bullshit before—it’s the office manager of this one property who is just the fucking worst. When I can jump over her head, I get more success. The woman who runs their main office is much more sane. I’ve just got to get to her.

you don’t have to be poor to be in this situation...but you might end up there.

The government literally froze the economy in Denmark. I don’t think it’s realistic to do so here but something has to be done. Also even before this happened, much of my Manhattan neighborhood has been empty storefronts and the number of empty storefronts in a 3 block radius of my apartment has only increased in past

I also have asthma, that’s pretty severe, and I have some damage as a result that has led to recurring infections. I also live with my mother, who is high risk. I work in mental health, and had to make the touch decision that I can’t work right now (I offered to quit, but they said I could just not come in until it

That doesn’t mean that landlords take houses from construction workers.

LOL. The construction workers are paid by the fuckin landlord.

Yep. I hate Wells Fargo. I had an auto loan with them and woke up one morning to find that my car had been repo’ed. No phone call. No letter. Nothing. I was over 3 years into the loan, and at that point was a couple weeks late on a monthly payment, but it definitely wasn’t a repo-late situation. It was a mistake on

Nah, you should give it a try! I volunteer to hold onto your assets while you learn how much fun there is in poverty.

What's going to happen when, in a few months when people have lost jobs and health coverage and the virus is making huge amounts of people insanely sick or dying? What then? Will a third of the country become medically bankrupt, if they survive? We have no safety net. None.

Are mortgages still collecting interest on your freeze though?  Because otherwise the can is being kicked further down the road.  I personally feel they should be completely halted until a few months down the road, but I see that as probably overly optimistic.

Schools are still feeding kids for free in NC....even though schools are canceled.  They’ll even feed adults for $2.

In NYC, pay your groceries. Landlords have a freeze on their mortgage payments and no evictions may take place under further notice from the Courts. Governor Cuomo also ordered utilities and cable companies to not shut down to any consumers during this time. Take care of yourself and your kids first. No court is going

If you’re in need of any kind of assistance, due to COVID-19 or not, https://findhelp.org will show you a list of community resources in your area. It looks like there are a lot of programs in Oakland, including several specifically helping people affected by COVID-19 layoffs.
