We don't need another season of The Grand Tour. We need Amazon to commission more seasons of The Reassembler.
Keep analog ALIVE? Dude, go back to the 70's then.
I’ve bought, Infiniti, Chevy, BMWs all new with manuals over the past 7 years. Do I get to complain?
The Vette gets better mileage than the BMW despite being a much larger engine.
Did it ever really need to have over 300hp other than to try and make you feel like your dick is bigger than it is. *this is not in reference to you specifically.
“The pushrod V8 will die.” Not too soon, I think. GM is doing pretty well with their pushrod engines. With the variable displacement technology, and the 2019 Silverado’s ability to turn all cylinders on and off as needed, the benefit of being able to phase the cams independently is reduced. VDE allows you to…
Michael, I’m in the same exact boat with my e39 Touring. While I adore it in every way, shape, and form; she’s been struggling with the self leveling suspension, go figure, it is almost 20 years old after all.
You’re mostly right, except where you talk about being a gas guzzler. The Vette gets much better mileage than the BMW despite having 63% more displacement. 16/25 for the Vette versus 14/20 for the M3.
Others have already covered the differences, and benefits of DOHC engines, but one of the reasons GM has stayed with the pushrod V8 is that is is compact, and can fit in placed a DOHC can’t. It also has a lower center of gravity, and maintenance is generally easier.
Why do so many people buy cars that I personally know to be bad cars instead of buying cars that I personally know to be good cars? How can I help them see the light?
I literally didn’t get the joke. I’m new to the GTI community as of 2015, and I don’t go back and read articles on 15-year old predecessor models, so I didn’t even know that GTI CEL jokes were a thing until I read through this thread after I made my first response. Although I would suggest a fresher source for comedic…
I have over 60k with a MkVII over the last 3 1/2 years. I haven’t the faintest clue what you’re talking about. The only shop visits I’ve had are for scheduled maintenance. And the kid who plowed into me in the school parking lot because he didn’t look both ways at a stop sign.
It may be worth noting, not that it really matters, that the one person who for some odd reason I gets paid to give car buying advice...owns a GTI. I’m also fairly certain I’m the only person currently employed here that has bought and still owns a brand new car. Again I don’t know why that matters, but I still…
>>VW guys with CEL jokes, or Mustang guys with Cars & Coffee accident jokes
you arent familiar with the modern GTI. I have a 2016 with 53k stage 2 tuned miles on it and no problems
This is an uninformed statement.
Looks like Jalopnik’s next head to head can be who gets triggered faster: VW guys with CEL jokes, or Mustang guys with Cars & Coffee accident jokes?
Calling the DSG an “autotragic” is just stupid. It’s not the 4-speed slushbox out of an old Malibu, it’s one of the best transmissions available. I have a 2016 with the DSG (even though I generally prefer manuals) and it suits the car perfectly. Always picks the right gear and shifts are instantaneous.
The GTI is really the perfect only car. Amazing to drive, and what you can’t fit in it you can put on the roof or tow behind it. Which is why I traded an M235i for one (‘17 Sport in white, with a stick) last year. The Miata is more fun, but that is all it’s really good for. The ideal would be to have one of each, and…
