Best rebuttal offered. You went with the nuclear option (Barney), and I respect you for that. You are absolutely right - ANYTHING is better than Barney.

I wish I'd get Bernadette... she's great.

I feel this same way. I feel like I lack the social currency that more feminine-preforming and "groomed" women have. I also am invisible to people I am attracted to. :/

Pockets! My kingdom for a fucking pocket that can hold something more than a tube of lipstick (which I wouldn't carry there anyway). WHY can't I get a real pocket? The worst thing about women's pants, by far. I'd buy men's but they just look wrong on my body type.

While theoretically I agree with you, I also never, ever, overestimate the ability of wealthy white men to be completely oblivious to the contributions, value or even existence of underprivileged women of color. - much less their appearance.

wow. Who is this woman? All the makeup in the world can't cover your horrendous attitude. People are trying to make you less ignorant. Try listening.

Wish I could star this a million more times just for the wonderful rarity of referencing a ficus.

Afasion22 was responding to someone tearing apart people who don't wear makeup as "plain janes" and is making the association between not wearing makeup and not bothering to shower or take care of hygiene.

I'm assuming his next move was to thank the nearby ficus tree for pulling him out of a burning tank during the war.

I take this a little personally since I have family members and very close friends in the sex trade and safety is always a big concern. These fuckheads come around and most are just blowhards who want to tell people how they should live. But occasionally you get someone who is really fucking dangerous who is sadistic

What, you thought God was omniscient or something?

Gosh yes, my daughters long hair was just full of food and god knows what else by the end of the day, so braiding helped keep her presentable at least.

Now she has had it cut to just below the shoulders and it is more manageable but I would like her to cut it shorter to make it so much easier to manage.

I am disabled also.

The problem is when you imply that women who don't wear makeup look like slobs. I don't think the article implied that anyone should forgo basic hygiene. Clean and neat is a minimum for everyone, male or female. Women's hair generally takes more time but that will vary with the cut/style chosen. In most industries,

Firstly you can be presentable without spending an extra hour or half an hour on unnecessary grooming. And yes grooming is he correct word for such preening. Perfume does not make you smell fresh but rather like chemicals and depending on the make up it can be small addition or 'putting on your face'.

I don't cut my hair and it's to my waist at this point. It's braided about 75% of the time, including when I sleep. If I ever have a daughter and she wants long hair, we are starting to learn how to braid when she begins developing fine motor skills. The fact that it can be made to look pretty is just a bonus.

I can attest to the differences in costs. Pre transition, I'd buy all my stuff at Ulta. Premium face wash, face lotion, and age defying crap like Philosophy? Way more than anything in the premium men's aisle. I paid half the costs for men's targeted comparable products. Even at Target recently I paid only $4 each for

That's really too bad, because contrary to what many people* seem to think, the idea of educational TV isn't meant for "lazy" parents who don't want to bother teaching their kids themselves. Sesame Street was created specifically for impoverished inner-city kids who were starting school behind the wealthier children.
