Unless cupping feels incredible, it really looks like something to avoid.
Thanks for adding this. I knew there are a couple of people on GT who are from different Native tribes / nations, but I’m really bad at connecting names to bits of life I’ve learned sometimes. I’ve been watching some intense conversation recently about someone appropriating Diné sacred tradition, and I expect people…
You may well know this stuff already, but when it comes to smudging and creating rituals that might incorporate different sacred traditions I just want to make sure there’s a reminder about appropriation and about sage harvesting here:
Can I respectfully suggest if you decide to do a ritual being very careful with 1) avoiding appropriation of sacred Native / Indigenous traditions re: smudging as a ritual, 2) sourcing herbs for smoke cleansing?
Mara Wilson is a bit off about the actual verses there; the verses are bible verses yes, but they’re pretty generic. Calling them “social conservatives favorites” is a bit much.
Yes and not only impoverished nations. Stealing water from drought stricken southern California too https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrowhead_Water
This ratio of people saying “we do in our hole” to the US Ambassador saying Ireland looks forward to a visit from Mike Pence is the second best thing on Irish twitter today.
An old one for me, and also a Billy: Billy Zane. Um... I don’t know if he ever did anything worthy of hatred, he just had a really punchable face. And I had an irrational hatred for anyone involved with Titanic for a very long time. Kate Winslet got out of my imaginary doghouse though being excellent. Leonardo Di…
I literally thought the “you’ll be legal when you turn 18" jokes meant “you’ll be able to vote”. Until well after my 18th birthday. And yet I could explain how that scene in Measure for Measure was all filthy jokes about STIs.
There are a few to choose from here:
Yup. I consider mine more convenient than not though, because it’s generally just while I’m actually in transit, not once I’ve checked in somewhere. And not having to poop in an airplane toilet is a definite plus.
I’m not terrified of flying but I get travel anxiety enough that I was seriously thinking of seeing if I could get a prescription for Xanax or something just for when I travel. So far I haven’t, but I do get a drink once I’m through security. It does help me relax a bit.
It’s still Friday right?

I really like the idea of Mrs for that reason, hate it for everything else.
I recently changed my airline details to Dr after realizing that they’d added mandatory prefixes, (inaccurately) defaulted me to Miss and didn’t even have Ms as an option. A bunch of Tweeps without doctorates have also decided to list themselves as Dr because Ms is not an option to choose.
There’s the idea of death smelling like roses, and then there’s getting phantom smells of flowers or roses as an omen of death. They’re pretty qualitatively different to me.
The not decomposing is a thing in Roman Catholic hagiography too.
I’m pretty well read in Irish folklore (I’m not a folklorist, but part of my PhD research was on the influence of Irish folklore in an author) and didn’t recognize it. Also, they don’t treat it like a tradition that must be followed, the way they do other superstitions like never putting shoes on the table, not…
