How it's framed by the media, for example. The highschool/college football players accused of rape, and news reporters stating that it will end their promising careers.

She's saying that even if you have good intentions here, by saying "women should learn self defence" you're putting the emphasis on what the victim should do, not on what the attacker should or should not do. This ends up blaming the victim for not 'doing enough' so stop it.
I don't think combating rape/scumbag/sexual assaulter comes from an individual, necessarily. Combating it comes from a societal commitment to do so. A commitment I don't think we currently have given the amount of accounts of women reporting rapes to police and being dismissed or discouraged.
I think the anger is from the idea that you're telling the victim how they should have handled it properly ("fight back!") which sounds like criticism, rather than criticising the perpetrator ("don't abuse in the first place!").
I have friends of an older generation, who when the Jimmy Savile scandal broke (not sure he's well known outside of the UK, but he was a highly creepy top of the pops presenter, then host of 'Jim'll Fix It' making wishes come true for kids - after he died it many people came forward saying he'd been systematically…
That's because no one on the internet ever utters the words "you are right, and I am wrong." As a rule, there are no winners. It's the first time I've ever seen it.
Yeah, the complete lack of support from the college was, in some ways, more disturbing than anything else.
Imph. That seems something of an oversight if you've got a law in place, an obstruction set out that ensures you cannot follow that law (presumably put there by a local authority) and nothing to account for that possibility or provide an exemption.
We don't have jaywalking in my country (if we need to cross a street we just...cross a street) so I'm not exactly sure how this law works but... she said the reason she was crossing the street where she did was because it was obstructed (construction on the sidewalk).
Yeah, agreed. I felt pretty sorry for him to be honest. He sounded very lonely (in light of which, "jumping right into dating the day after buying your dead, methhead tweeker wife" is totally understandable, if not necessarily wise).
Whoa. How is people commenting on their bad online dates 'male bashing'?
All the internets. The creator of this should have them.
I reckon it'll be stretched out until he writes another book. may involve some (more) chronology re-jigging.
That's the one, yeah :)
The amount of people on the internet I've encountered who will try and argue that Nazi's were far-left instead of far-right because of the 'socialist' bit :/
"The Lion King Turns 20 Today!"
...I'm not sure how I implied or responded to you that you didn't know what you were talking about. Admittedly, I'm finding the format of the comment thread here a bit difficult to follow, but pretty sure I didn't say that to you.
Not particularly relevant but..."Chancy Layton".
Actually, I remember at one point in House him saying "why did you want to be a doctor? you could've been anything. with your looks, you could've been a model" but it being directed at Cameron instead.
