We didn’t get a voucher, that was just our plan - it was a local bakery I love and we got cakes from there regularly anyway, so it wasn’t a big deal. (Besides, the hotel cut up, plated, and served the entire cake without even asking if we wanted any to save, so we would have been SOL.)

Aw shit, I’m sorry.  #fuckcancer

I had a longer post, but I deleted it. To me, what amazes me is that he got into Marvel shape with the chemo involved.

If it’s ever safe to travel again, you need to go to York, England, home of the Kit Kat. There is a museum there called York’s Chocolate Story - it is more like a very amusing guided tour about the history of chocolate-making in York, which includes the history of the Kit Kat bar. (You also get chocolate samples

My favorite restaurant in St. Paul has dessert pancakes, which are inspired by Quebec’s Pouding Chômeur. So they are these slightly cake-like, slightly sweetened pancakes drowning in an ocean of maple syrup that has been combined with cream, and then topped with a huge knob of vanilla butter.

Yep.

I love the corn - it’s so fresh. I mean, yeah, I can do it at home, but it’s just such a nice change from all the fried stuff.

My favorite MN State Fair poster in recent years is the 2012 version. The high occurrence of foodstuffs - corn, pickle, cheese curds, cotton-candy, corn dog, mini-donuts, snow cone, and yes, Sweet Martha cookies - really resonated with me. The food and the rides and poking through the livestock barns are peak State

The box includes grilled corn, corn dogs, French fries, cookies, mini-donuts, and cheese curds

Apparently they just had a baby in March, so it must still happen occasionally.  But it appears they baked that into the marriage.

“Over time, passionate love shifts into companionate love—you’d better pick the right partner for your life journey, someone who wants the same life that you want.”

I make this horseradish cream sauce where you reduce 2 cups of vegetable broth down to about 2 tbsp by poaching beef in it. It results in this lovely beefy concentrate.

Then you dump 2/3 cup of heavy cream into that. But this is heavy cream in which the first thing you did when you woke up in the morning is to measure

I actually made this cake for a friend of mine who raises bees professionally. She would agree with you on the bee decoration in general, but not that the cake needed to be topped with cute little bees for it to be optimally tasty. (I sent her home with a 1/4 wedge of the cake with very little argument.)

Also, the Portland tactic of snatching people off the streets didn’t go over well, so there’s that. Since it was clear the violence in Portland was due to the Feds sent in, they had to try another tack.

On a tendon note - see those puffy things in the back? Miraculous treatment of tendon. Like pork rinds, but about a gazillion times better.

(This was also a stellar tartare.  It tasted like a bowl of Pho without the broth.  I miss it so much...)

Marrow. I am so pissed off at how relatively expensive marrow has gotten.

My husband and I went to NOLA for the early part of Mardi Gras this year and discovered the Drago’s grilled oysters. So. Fucking. Amazing. It also hit the sweet spot for me and my husband - I love cooked oysters but I just can’t get past the texture of raw. My husband usually doesn’t like cooked oysters and prefers the

I’m pretty sure I’ve had a grilled watermelon salad with all of these ingredients except the bun. Which honestly, I’d rather have - the texture differences of crisp greens, soft goat cheese, and that firm-sponginess of good watermelon is going to get completely wiped out by a ciabatta bun.

A bakery-cafe here in St. Paul - The Buttered Tin - is reopening with a service-charge/no-tip model, along with a rewards program for repeat customers. Most people seem okay with that.

Oh that Nazgul & Fell Beast costume was the SHIT. When the head fell off while she was walking the llama around, the whole crowd groaned for her.
