A huge pile of various flavored KitKats from York (home of KitKats), along with several tubes of the Dark Chocolate McVitie’s Digestives from London.

Must be nice not to be currently living in the Upper Midwest.

If they are appealing to the limited hand-strength market - myself included - that’s not necessarily appealing. A tight anchor lock can be just as difficult as a tight vacuum seal if, say, your thumbs aren’t quite as flexible and strong as they should be.  (Pro-tip - if you become a field geologist, try to NOT hit

I have limited hand strength, so if it was just breaking the vacuum that was the problem? Slip a butter knife under the edge of the lid and twist. That breaks the vacuum and unless something else is gumming up the seal - i.e., food or some sort of sugary liquid that locks up the screw -the lid should now easily

Here’s a video of how it works. So it’s still actually a screw-top.

Someone once bought me this frog-shaped bottle-opener as a stocking stuffer-type gift.

I will most likely never buy an Instant Pot. Because I am home most of the day, and have a stack of 3, 5, and 7 qt dutch ovens (along with a 12 qt stockpot), and so I don’t need the accelerated cooking speed of a pressure cooker, nor the built-in safeties of a slow-cooker. I can just pop into the kitchen every 45-60

So as a Gen-X, can I tell you how much I’m loving this?

I’m a news junkie, and I didn’t realize until you stopped publishing how much I landed on Splinter (and Deadspin) during the day.

For those readers who live in the Twin Cities, Lunds & Byerly’s will sharpen your knives for free - the only limit is 2 at a time. You just need to give them 24 hours. Go to the butcher counter, and there are sleeves there for you to put your knives in - you just need to put down your name and telephone number.

Another person even announced their intention to push out “one very arrogant black man who [thinks] he’s smarter than everyone.”

My husband and I got GE in late summer last year, and this type of thing had been an option then.  However, as we live in Minneapolis-St. Paul, getting to the airport for our interviews was convenient for us, so I can’t speak to the experience as a traveler.

We came back from the UK last fall and flew into Dulles. We came home on a Wednesday, so it wasn’t like it was peak travel day.

Back when it wasn’t as common, I stayed home a little bit longer to save up and get a slightly better salary so I could get my own apartment. I took some crap about it from friends, but my parents were understanding.

Oh, FFS. My husband and I recently went to one of our favorite restaurants and both had something the bar had declared was a Spanish G&T. It’s based in Gin Mare - a botanical Spanish gin - and is garnished with edible flowers, lemon wedges, mint leaves, and pink peppercorns.

I told my husband that it was love when I moved in with him, because I left my utilities-included apartment that had a gas range to move into his condo with his ancient, shitty electric range.

Yep, this.

I bought this “galaxy” whisk on a whim, and ended up using it so much I bought a second one. It’s great for whipping dressings inside measuring cups or sauces/gravies in small pots. I feel like it’s more ergonomic - since the handle is full-sized - and since it’s flexible you can get to the edge of your pots.

I’m trying to figure out exactly how much cream you’re whipping at once that you need a bowl that big. That’s, like, commercial bakery volumes of whipped cream. (Also, does it even fit in your ‘fridge so you can chill it? I hate filling bowls with ice for that purpose because the bowl is wet with condensation.)

I stand - as noted in a main reply, I have bilateral hip pain, so flying is a damn painful experience for me if I don’t upgrade my seats - but even in situations like this I keep my ass in my seat.  Because standing in the way of people who need to get off the plane and a few minutes can mean the difference between
