The scenario we discussed in the meetup last week was more of theft. They ruled out "holding a gun to your head" as a legitimate scenario because you would have bigger things to worry about, but a Mission Impossible heist-type situation could happened. Then you'd be in trouble. 

I use a password manager and 2FA for everything and I don't feel the need to justify my position with cognitive dissonance and mental gymnastics because I am doing what the security experts recommend.

It’s all marketing anyway. I would bet anything that user storage is “thin-provisioned” i.e. you are only taking up space that you are actually using and Google does not leave 200gb of storage allocated to you all the time.
