I own a 2017 TDV6 diesel Discovery HSE and have put a little over 14,000 miles on it in the last year. My opinion is that it is a great vehicle and anyone who doesn’t at least test drive the diesel is doing themselves a serious disservice. Here are some impressions from the last 14 months:

Wonderful-now if Nascar will just add some more road courses to the schedule - Road Atlanta anyone? Since one of the most popular racing series of all time was the Trans-Am which pitted Mustangs, Camaros, Javelins, and Cuda’s this might revive some of that former glory. Parnelli Jones for the new Nascar Czar!

There was a 300 SL Mercedes in Barris’ shop being given a flame paint job by Von Dutch when Dean was building this car . He saw the roof vents and tail lights and use them as an inspiration for his car. He told me that it was this car that launched his career and was very fond of it. It won over 30 first place

Made that bracket myself - didn’t want to put any holes in the bodywork. Dean had something similar on the the car in the 1950's.

An unrestored 1957 356A Carrera sold at Goodings this past Spring at Amelia Island for over $500K. The engine was in pieces and it will take at least $50K to put that back together plus the restoration of the rest of the car. A driver quality 356B Carrera sold for over $690K at Bomhams. This car is restored to

I’ve been fending off the Porsche purists for 47 years. I happen to really like what Dean did to the car. It really looks spectacular in person. The front and rear pans are rolled under and everywhere you look on the car there is some little touch that Dean did to put his touch on it. From the engine turned panels in

I really wanted a Mini-Cooper as my first car back in 1967 - I was turning 16 and had found a pair of them for $150 - some assembly required. My dad thought it wasn’t a good idea to buy two disassembled Minis but - “the kid wants a small foreign car” - so he went out and bought me a Renault Dauphine - for $50.... I

MGB at this past weekend’s British Motorcar Day...

So are Land Rovers...

My mom loved her BMW’s - especially 2002's - she owned a blue one in 1970 and after dad sold it and bought her a Fiat 131 she was not happy. So he bought her another 2002 - in Colorado Orange which I bought from her after she bought a 528 a few years later. Before the BMW she had a beautiful black 1966 Corvair Monza

One of my all time favorite movies as well. I saw it in the theaters in 1977 and have watched it several times since. Yves Montand was in the Wages of Fear which is also excellent.

In manufacturing we go to great lengths to keep humans and robots apart with safeguards to keep them separated. I don’t understand the big rush to have the carbon based life forms to mix with silicon based machines that don’t care if they squash you like a bug....

My mom’s black 1966 Corvair Monza Coupe - actually a very nice car before I got my inexperienced teenage paws on it. I think I dented every body panel except the roof in a series of mishaps. Mom didn’t forgive me until dad bought her a BMW 2002 in 1970.

Dan Gurney has been one of my heroes since 1966 - I’m very saddened by his passing but he set an example that few heroes can ever live up to. I sat next to him at Amelia Island in 2011 and was so star struck that I could barely speak to him. He was very gracious and I can truly say that if any man ever deserved

My 1966 Land Rover diesel 109 station wagon is patiently waiting its “turn” on my project list. I bought it in 1978 and it has almost 400,000 miles on it. The transmission broke for the third time twelve years ago and its been sitting ever since. I’ve been wasting my time working on the shiny thing in front of it.

My Volkswagen Thing with the infamous Firestone 500 tires on it - it tried to leap sideways into ditches on a damp road multiple times.

First car I got to drive at age 14 was my father’s 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider - the first one I got turned loose in at age 16 was my mothers 1966 Corvair Monza - over a period of a year and a half I bent every exterior body panel on that poor car except for the roof.

I had one that would easily get 32 mpg on the highway at a very relaxed 70 mph. It was great car to go on long trips with - just cruised along like a sixties American car.
