For me, at least - is the un-attainability of it. I’m never going to get to the point where I have that kind of millions to build one of those cars and run a team. I find local circle racing way more interesting. Lower budget stuff usually has less strict rules and, while money does usually win in the end due to

Yeah, our rescue is terrified with thunder\lightning and fireworks. I’m so sick of the “Oh it patriotic” “Oh, just deal with it, it’s only a couple of nights a year”.

Bullshit. It goes on for 2+ weeks of straight up fireworks at random intervals at all hours of the night. Then, as these people find left overs in their

As someone who hasn’t slept in a week because of assholes lighting fireworks off since June 30th until 4am: Good.

Road salt has been directly linked to a decrease in population of various fish, reptiles and amphibians - in some cases it has completely eliminated the population in high use areas. It has been linked in helping many invasive insects proliferate because it destroys plants natural defenses. It accumulates in ground

You’re right. Road salt doesn’t cause corrosion and environmental damages. That must have been table salt I was thinking of.

The “no salt areas” around endangered species habitats and drinking water must be there so that people have a higher chance of crashing into a tree for the lulz.

    We are literally making species

Here’s the thing - the state does use salt for snow. Sand and studs work just fine for ice without poisoning wildlife and promoting invasive species.

You must not care about the environment or personal property.

I’m talking about replacing pretty much every moving part. All the bushings, mounts, wheel bearings, ball joints etc. All of that costs less then $800 and a days worth of work to replace. Seats are refurbished with Subaru OEM parts for less that $500. Electrical system is really the only part that I wouldn’t touch

I have, that’s why I can drive my car in the snow without ending in a ditch. Unlike you, apparently.

How do you figure? You won’t be dumping money into it any more than any other car. $12k would being this thing up to basically new mechanically. I’m talking all the suspension, the engine, the transmission, vac lines, brakes etc.

The biggest issue is rust but generally speaking cars from this area are cleaner than most.

    Learn how to drive?

I could do all the work that is needed on this though in a couple of weekends. They are some of the easiest cars to work on, unlike modern Fords.

WRX wagons have a flaw that causes the rear strut towers to rot. The cars look fine from the outside but if you take the interior out, it’s scary. I’ve seen the issue on cars that have spend their life below the rust belt as well. Google Rust PSA + NASIOC to see what I mean.

Also, I would love to own one of those -

It’s an automatic Ford that is boring as hell to drive. A LGT is a drivers car that is pretty analog. The most intrusive thing you have to deal with is ABS which can be disabled easily. The LGT has plenty of aftermarket support as well.

If you want a basic, boring, top heavy CUV, sure - buy the Escape. I’ll take the

Clean, running examples of these go for $8k all day long. Even with over 150k on the clock. It’s not a flip car - $12k would only be worth it if you drive it for 5-10 years. If done properly, you will have a 250-350 whp DD that will run for at least 150k more miles and still get close to 30mpg highway

If the chassis is clean, which given the location, is probable - $12k is getting you a DD with refreshed everything. New suspension, bushings, mounts, new engine, transmission ect. It would even pay for the hail damage repair.

IMO, assuming the chassis is clean - it would be worth it because there is literally nothing

Yeah, and the seats are specifically designed to be sat in for literally hours at a time. The dash is still the same as any other Crown Vic - just with a couple of additional holes drilled it where various mounts used to be. the only difference really carpet vs no carpet. Again, I would hope that Ford’s top of the

What other wagon can you buy for $12k that will have 250-350 whp, AWD with a stick that will have basically all brand new components in it and still get close to 30mpg highway?

This thing ticks a lot of boxes.

I think it’s a regional thing. We use UPS at our site because they actually show up on time. Our sister site in NJ uses Fedex because of the same reasons.

Yeah. The whole point of it being a DD is that you don’t care if it gets dinged in the parking lot. It would be $12k for a completely refreshed, reliable DD that is fun to drive and can still haul a decent load from Home Depot that would have 0 miles on the engine.

I disagree. I own a new Subaru. A 2018 Crosstrek. If I had an 05 LGT in my fleet I would take it every day over it. Newer Subarus (and most new cars) just don’t drive like they used to. An 05 LGT, even at $12k, would be a better drivers car than pretty much anything in that price range that competes with it (I’m not
