We have protected groups because we’ve proven ourselves incapable of acting like human beings to other human beings for centuries now. Also “sexual orientation” is not a protected class in all states in regard to all services, although the outcome of this court case may deem it so.

Religion is a protected class. So if you are refusing to serve someone based on their (the customer’s) religion, it is not legal (at least that is the crux of the state’s argument).

But skin-head nazis aren’t a protected class in any jurisdiction.
