Meaning there could be some real anti-Italian bias behind her jokes. I'm not Italian, but living in metro NYC, I can say that bias exists.

Although I don’t think she had a particular motivation besides being genuinely stoked and overwhelmed, it’s actually incredibly smart. If you want the home crowd to back you in the final after you took down their champion and a legend, try to stay in their good graces. Novak Djokovic learned that the hard way.
I think she’s joking.. then again she got pretty salty when someone said she shouldn’t be a sore loser... :/
A purse sized pocket would mean needing suspenders because the weight would drag the pants to the ankle, right? Fashion hurts my lady-brain.
Really? And here I was, thinking she actually wanted to throw pasta into the harbor.
MAYBE SHE’S JUST THINKING OF FUNNY QUIPS AND PLAYS ON WORDS THAT ARE RELATED TO ITALY?
Yeah, I mean I’m mad for Serena, but winning against arguably the best athlete in the world is nothing to sneeze at. I still wish she had lost though.
I was hoping/expecting Serena to win, but it makes me happy that Vinci won. I loved her big “What about me?” gesture after a great rally where she won the point. Her interview afterwards was charming. Her apology was funny, but completely unnecessary. I wish the commentators would give her a little more credit for the…
Same! I love Serena and I’ve been a fan of her’s since I played tennis in high school (so, like over a decade), but good for Vinci! I love that she said this was the best day of her life and she can’t even believe she beat Serena. I think even she likely didn’t going in expecting that she’d win. And it’s a testament…
I did! she was freaking adorable, and beaming with happiness. She was amazing today, and deserves all the credit. Truly ran, ran, ran and put that ball on the court!
did you hear Vinci interview post match? great one. She outrun and outsmarted Serena, she doesn’t have firepower to rely on. i am upset that she broke up with Errani, best doubles pair
I'm sad that she felt the need to apologize for her victory. Did the dude who beat Andy Murray say sorry after? Doubt it.
She’s at it here too. My teenager has more maturity than this.
Right? It sounds like the Italian lady knows her win was a combo of playing her best and not meeting Serena on her best day, and is proud of the job she did while acknowledging that. We can be happy for her and sad for Serena at the same time.
AND SOME CARS
Frankly I am glad Serena got knocked out not because I dislike her(she is an amazing athlete probably the best woman in the sport ever), but because her fan base was getting ridiculous to the point where every other woman in the sport was called second rate and balked at by her supporters.
Eh, nobody can be perfect all the time. She is still probably the best woman to ever grace the game and she’s got a lot more GS’s in her future.
Lots of people are upset about this and I get that we are all pulling for Serena, but I’m happy for Vinci all the same. Holy crap! She knocked out the No.1 player in her sport! And at No.43 no one expected she was capable of that most likely.
