Hm. I get what you’re saying, but as a gay dude, all I really care about is the performance. Does the actor disappear into the role? Is the performance compelling? Is the story interesting? Those are things I care about.
Gay actors play straight people all the time. They’re just in the closet, so we don’t necessarily

100%. She is one of the true masters of the acting craft. Not only that, she has really great taste in projects. Half of the reason I like any actor over another is because of the projects they choose. She almost always chooses things that are interesting.
I’d love to see her in a few more straight up dramas. A period

Holy shit, that was Huggy Bear! I knew I recognized him. I’ve never seen Car Wash, it came out when I was five years old, but I’ve always wanted to see it. Excited it’s on my radar now.

Agreed. I love his other films, but I thought Synecdoche was a mess.

But ... there was a sequel! About the other group. I can’t remember what happens, just that the lady with the long dark hair from Hill Street Blues was in it, and I loved her ... and her fabulous sequin gown.

YES! 70s disaster films are my jam. I grew up watching them on TV, in the summer, with my friends. We’d each pick a survivor to be our avatar, which made the experience so much more fun. I usually picked the pretty girl, and they usually died in some gruesome way. SPOILER ALERT

Eight years later, I’m commenting! How could you not mention the name of the witch that cursed Barnabas? Anglique! I watched that show one summer in like 1983, and I was lucky enough to get it right as Victoria went back in time. Anglique was hands down the best Dark Shadows character ever. At least to a 10-year-old

Agreed, it was a pretty stupid thing to write. It says nothing about the actual subject of the film or its merits

I haven’t listened to them in years, despite loving their first album back in the day. They sound just as good now as they did back then. How is that possible? Thanks for this, it really made my day!

Netflix STILL delivers DVDs, dude.

Agreed! I loved how that relationship developed.

Oh but Diane gives it back to her, and with relish. Diane can insult Carla even better than Carla can insult Diane, IMO. I think they both love it, you can see it in the way their eyes sparkle when they’re trading insults.

I didn’t get this when I was a kid, but when I watched it recently I was pleasantly surprised to

Or maybe it wasn’t that the writers couldn’t write a competent, well-adjusted female character, but that a competent, well-adjusted character of any gender just isn’t that funny. A messy character is much more fun.

I didn’t watch beyond Season One because the lead characters just don’t speak to me, but I did really love Kelli. I’ll have to give season two a go, just because of her.

Pure speculation. Didn’t Dr. Fauci say a week or so ago that a second wave seemed unlikely given the fact that the states, counties and cities that opened up over a month ago haven’t seen significant spikes? Texas, OK, and Georgia were open ... what, six, seven weeks ago? Most counties in Oregon opened up four weeks

Are you kidding me? The MAJORITY of the men in the world are uncircumcised. If circumcision had a such a big impact on HIV transmission, then Europe, as just ONE example, would have a much higher rate of transmission than the US, one of the FEW countries in the world that routinely circumcises boys. And yet, that is

Ugh, another gay romance packed with blandly-handsome boys. Boring. I mean, I’ll probably still watch it, but the 80s soap opera casting is just really uninspired. Even the 90s version of 90210 had more interesting actors.

Funny you mention it, I just heard about Girlfriends recently and I’m dying to see it.

I really love the idea of a movie about the making Valley of the Dolls. It would be a lot of fun. Actually, it might work better as at TV show. Lots to explore there, with bottle episodes about the different actors’ lives.

Ebert wrote the screenplay for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, an early 70s sexploitation  movie, which has absolutely nothing to do with this movie and book. They’re both campy and crazy, in different ways.
