Every manufacturing operation we give to china is an opportunity for them to improve their process and lower their costs. They have a monopoly on manufacturing and they enjoy all of the benefits that come with it.

You’re reading things that aren’t there. What I said was that I can’t really get worked up over people getting a great deal on an apartment and not having access to luxury amenities. As you can see from the comments, these renters are not being asked to do without things that most renters don’t do without.

Because there is no way developers would be willing to spend the same amount of money on the flats they’ll sell starting at a million and the flats they’ll rent out for way below market rate, so they’d turn down whatever tax breaks the city was offering them. There’s also the fact that people would be less willing to

No, actually. But I really don’t think that, given the existence of unjustifiable slums that still exist in US cities, having to buy a floor lamp and accept my own packages counts anywhere near “the bottom”.

Because at least it keeps working/middle class people in those neighbourhoods instead of progressively driving them out because they can no longer afford to live there and making cities segregated along class/income lines. But to do that you have to give developers some kind of incentive (tax breaks) to include

She’s 14. Calm your tits.

Did you mean Ohio rich?

Oh yeah. I think the point of this article (and the feeling that most people are left with) is that this is a sad and unfair situation, and it must feel terrible. But I live in New York, and all I’m thinking is, That one woman got a TWO BEDROOM on the UPPER WEST SIDE for $1,080!?!?! I can’t put numbers is caps, but

Right- that’s exactly it. This rent is high for those of us that don’t live in New York. The lack of amenities for the price is shocking to people who don’t live in New York. I’ve had bad ass apartments for 800 a month and I’ve had shitty 2 bedrooms with no dishwasher, doorman, or elevator for slightly more than in

An apartment like the one you are describing in Manhattan would start at $4,000/mo and would be considered a very good deal in a building like the one you are describing. $5-$6k/mo is more likely. To put it in perspective, I pay $2700 for a 2bd/2ba co-op in a good, but not trendy part of Queens. It’s relatively big

If you are okay with them not getting the luxury amenities, how are you not okay with them using separate doors. If they are using the main door, they are getting the benefit of a doorman, package service, and any amenities the lobby may provide. Mine had free coffee and a breakfast spread.

Yep, i have a good deal in south Brooklyn at $1644 for a 2 bedroom. No dishwasher, no range hood/ventilation, steam pipe doesn’t work in the kitchen, landlords that don’t fix anything, no doorman, definitely no laundry... sounds like the “poor side” just has a regular NY apt experience tbh.

Oh not New York...

I’m paying double that for a walk-up apartment without a dishwasher, doorman, laundry, etc. and frankly, to pay $1,082 for a two-bedroom on the UWS is a major luxury in itself. No dishwasher, boo hoo! I would walk through a sewer, never mind a “poor door,” for that price.

Yeah, my one-bedroom 1500$-a-month apartment certainly doesn’t have a dishwasher. We don’t even have a ventilator in the kitchen and bathroom...

I kept telling the same jokes about why I wasn’t having kids because people kept asking me why I wasn’t having kids. Maybe the interviews she’s doing this year keep bringing up her ‘outsider’ status in Hollywood. Maybe she looks around at awards shows and notices no one is eating. Who knows.

She is “fat” for her industry and is probably told so by power players on the regular. I agree it is a little tone deaf when most people are heavier than her, but it might be her reality. I am pregnant right now and the number of people who walk up to me and tell me I am HUGE (even though I am in the normal weight

I think it’s all of the above. I guarantee her weight has always been an “issue” if she were to go to acting exclusively. Case in point, Ron Howard’s daughter having one size 6 option gown sent to her for the Golden Globes, hence she bought off the rack. It’s not subtle...every actress famous r is the same size with

So, obviously everything in the units should be functional, but, as someone who pays $1,400 a month to live in a tiny garden (read:basement) unit, I find it hard to sympathize with complaints that $1,100 for a two bedroom in a safe neighborhood doean’t come with a doorman and a gym.

I know it’s all territory she’s been over before, but she is funny and truthful about it, and I love it. I think the material that isn’t about her body is funnier though.
