I think the cake was an example of a food that you enjoy once in a while that isn’t necessarily healthy. Obviously it’s not an indulgence for you if you hate it. Is there anything else you indulge in that fits that description? Because if there is, that would be your 'cake'.

If you’re not eating something because you don’t like it, then you’re absolutely not who she’s getting at in this article. Chill out, she wasn’t getting a dig at you.

Also some foods literally are less nutritious raw. Tomatoes are a great example. The lycopene in them is much better absorbed when they’ve been cooked.

I went to a raw vegan restaurant once. 11 years later I still refuse to eat another meal like that again.

Cleanses are bullshit. They don’t “remove toxins” or anything like that, and no science backs them. If people want to feel physically better overall, changing their diet to one that is a balance of the food groups, with treats in moderation, is the way to go. The moderation part is so that they feel better mentally,

Recovering bulimic—I was vegan for about 8 months and it was...unhealthy. I have to avoid restrictive “lifestyle” diets like the plague; it’s just too easy to make them an extension of compulsion.

Judgmental moment here: I don’t get raw veganism. I don’t get it at all. It’s great to incorporate some of the raw vegan foods in your diet once in a while, but like making it your lifestyle? Don’t get it.

Obviously it isn’t scientific, but the orthorexics I know were anorexic and/or bulimic when they were younger.

Yeah. I tend to mind my own business about it but when a friend tells me they’re doing a ‘cleanse’ I have to work at biting my tongue about how unhealthy I actually think most cleanses are. I’m not always happy with how my body looks either, but I don’t think avoiding solid foods for a week is going to make it

it’s obviously not the case for everyone but yeah...

At it’s extreme, this type of obsession with “clean eating” is called orthorexia. It’s a recognised disorder. When people get so involved in a certain type of restrictive diet, such as paleo, it can be really harmful. But often it’s not picked up, and people who are obsessive are celebrated as super-healthy role

She’s not wrong. A multi-day cayenne pepper and lemon juice only ‘cleanse’ is to a person with disordered eating what a weekend long bender in Vegas would be for an alcoholic. It’s not healthy and the media should stop glorifying that type of thing.

They used to have beautiful, well made and unique garments. Stunning, interesting dresses (I have one I’ve told my family they should just fucking bury me in, I love it that much), fun and funky accessories, wonderful and whimsical homegoods. They completely lost their way and now have cheaply made, awkwardly sized

Anthropologie used to have such great stuff, they do still sometimes, but so much is just shapeless lace paneled see through blah.

I was never much of an Antropologie customer (am a guy), but from what I’ve seen in-store is that they are high priced and kind of all over the place. How it managed to survive the economic downturn is anyone’s guess.

I think Anthropologie is having that exact same crisis right now too.

And bring back linings! Suit pieces and blazers should all be fully lined. Dresses should have linings. Trousers should have linings.

I still have a wool crewneck sweater that I've had for almost 20 years. You simply cannot find anything like that there anymore.

The company believed that the influence of fashion bloggers mattered. No one cares what a bunch of rich kids online think about clothing, and this was proven by the continual decline of the company. They picked the wrong person to head the company and they won’t bounce back until they drop her.

What is up with these mid-to-high end retailers and vastly overpriced, cheaply made t-shirts? I can get something of comparable cut and quality at target. Stuff like skirts and slacks are usually genuinely better made, but it’s like these stores assume that their clientele will just mindlessly by $70 dollar t-shirts
