Setting all of season one in a town that they then blew up still annoys me. I bailed after ep 3 and only came back (watched the last three of S1) for the S2 premiere, to see if it was any better- it is, but it still feels like most of S1 was a waste of time.

Absolutely none of this came through in that trailer. He just looks like a dude whose superpower is boring speeches.

This is one of my all-time favorite books, but I totally agree. Beefing up the female characters across the board, while adding some interesting nuances to characters like Mr. Nancy and Wednesday (McShane crushing it) has been phenomenal. I adore that this show can surprise me in the best ways while still being

This entire episode was everything I never realized I would have liked to have in the book. Fleshing out Laura and Audrey is a fantastic choice for this narrative. Laura feels like a person, nor just a poetic cypher.

Fair enough. I tapped out seasons ago, so I'm not up on it.

Maybe bland is the wrong word. I think one-note is probably more accurate to what I disliked about him. He's just a really scary psychopath, with none of the complexity, charisma or humanity we saw in Cottonmouth. Might as well be going "I'll get you next time, Luke CAAAAAAGE!"

Basically.

I thought it would be great! I really like their little family with Danielle in the comics. They work beautifully there. But this… noooooooo. What a terrible start.

She's also, interestingly enough, the person who appears to be the glue between all of these shows- DD, JJ, LC, and judging by how we leave her, looking for martial arts lessons from Collen Wing, into Iron Fist. She's way more than a love interest.

Maybe in the comics, but in the series of the show, she does a lot more than patch Luke up, including kicking a surprising amount of ass, giving us the most relevant technobabble about Luke Cage's skin being like a seashell (LOL), AND coming through with the stolen ambulance.
ETA: Plus her Mother is Sonia Braga, who is

Never read the comics, so I'm only judging based on the show. Mike Colter has increeeeedible chemistry with everyone with lady parts, though.

I did say that. It is damn near revolutionary to see a woman of color be treated like she's beautiful and valuable on a tv show not written by Shonda Rhimes. It's certainly unheard of in the MCU! But there's really no ship here to like. They had one kiss, not a commitment ceremony.

I don't have a ship here, unless "not Jessica Jones please" counts as a ship. Claire/Luke worked really well together as friends and partners. Whether or not they ever get more than that, I still love seeing them together.

Luke Cage is literally the first and only piece of superhero film/tv that has ever seemed to be directed at me, and other people like me, as a primary consumer. I had a lot to say about it (obviously).

I acknowledge sex. My point was that sex is not romance. Her primary role in the series is not romantic, it's to be the investigator who moves the plot forward.

Well you have a great night then. Nothing to discuss here.

Fair enough.

If you really don't look at Luke Cage and see WOC being independent everywhere you look, I think maybe you watched some other show, my mistake, and we are not actually talking about the same thing at all.

That's true. Fingers crossed they won't kill one of the only WOC who is allowed to talk in the whole Marvel Universe

You already said you didn't want to waste time conversing on this with me. You should move on.
