Yeah, I’m with you. I gave a commencement speech (salutatorian) and I still appreciate that one of my “jokes” about community college was censored because it diminished the hard work of students who were going to community college. Your speech at graduation is supposed to be for all the students—it’s not an award show

Also of relevance re: Biden: when Chris Hayes asked her if she ever felt the need to follow the polls when taking a position and she said, no, that’s not what leadership looks like. I’m going to try to convince people of what I believe, and listen to what they have to say, and never stop fighting.

I think she is a lot more polite and respectful of her co-hosts than the first conservative lady they had, Elizabeth Hasselbeck. That woman threw tantrums. I don’t like McCain, and I don’t think her political views are very well-reasoned (or at all original, like you said. I think she considers the Republican party

No, wait, you had it right the first time : )

This whole episode was exactly what I wanted and yet...too much? of a good thing? I was cringing at the fan service while I was simultaneously delighted. It was extremely discombobulating!

I personally would probably prefer less beard on most men, too. My bf does a scruffy short thing that is cute, though. And I’ve had the opportunity to notice on him (staring so deeply into his eyes all the time and all that) it really can define the jaw in a flattering way.

Yes, the SVU parody was lovely. I think it’s been tried time and time again, but some sort of magic happened to make SVU the ultimate spinoff. (I mean, Ice-T? What acting had he done before that? Surprisingly perfect.)

Orlando Bloom used to be very hot. Even outside of Legolas (imo). But pretty boys have a certain shelf life, I think. Or maybe just the shallow ones. (Here’s looking at you, Leonardo.)

OMG! Now I’m wondering how often she says that to him in bed or if that got really old, really quick.

Well put. I used to be a total know-it-all in school when teachers would cover something that I just happened to know already until I learned, really learned, not everything is for me. Some things are for other people. It reminds me of the woman in the news recently in her 90s that scientists are researching because

This reminds me of last week’s episode of Better Things. Everyone’s having fun, letting their hair down, shit-talking their husbands, and drinking WAY too much, and it looks like a blast...until it really doesn’t. Then the next day two of the women get together and the one pretends she can’t remember saying she wanted

I love you entire post (and adorable photo!) but especially the line “inept dads try to swap out self-deprecation for abnegation.” That is so true and very aptly put. I think Russell Brand thought he was being humble and funny, but he accidentally revealed he doesn’t actually view his wife as a person, let alone

But on the bright side, you got to be a hero for your mom! How rare is that, that you catch a car thief in the act, and manage to chase him down?

Lololol. But very practical for all those camping trips!

Awww, I feel for your childhood friend (and you). The hardest part of growing up is learning how unfair the world really is. I was just reading an advice column in favor of not making Santa a big deal for your kids (like maybe only a small present from Santa every year, the rest from mom and dad) for this very reason.

Just fyi, if you’re going to tell a story this long and self-aggrandizing (I believe you, your haggis is the best, you are super-Scottish, and being Scottish is also the best) try not to piss off your audience right off the bat by saying “white-bread middle-class Middle America” is all about gluttony, casual racism AND

In my experience, the 3.5-4 star restaurants with thousands of reviews were the actually good restaurants. Unfortunately, Yelp never has these at the top of the results, and its “highest rated” restaurants are usually brand-new or a food truck or something (clients, probably).

I used to work at a non-profit private art collection with FREE admission and Yelp asked us to advertise with them All The Time. I would say, we don’t really have a budget for that, we try to use social media, etc., etc. They were soooo aggressive.

I just commented about this to the main thread, but watch “Rare Exports” if you haven’t already!
