Too funny, I read the The Count of Monte Cristo when I was 13 years old (my mother forced me to, as it was on some list of recommended reading for my new high school) and almost 30 years later I still refer to it as my favourite book.

Added a few to my list! Some that I have enjoyed this Summer include When the Stars go Dark, The Bad Muslim Discount, Libertie, and The Last Thing He Told Me. A range in genres, but all of them good for their own reasons!

My fave recap podcast (Watch What Crappens) has been talking about these allegations for months. It suuuuccckkks that he won. It sucks even more that Tom was so on his jock all season, and especially in the lead up to the finale.

Weird how he chooses to say this now, when a long time female character gets a lead in her own picture.

I will be putting The Yellow House on hold at the library. Thank you, Jez!

I feel quasi-bad about using an adblocker on Jez, but every time I turn it off I straight up can’t read the site.

May I also add: actual Eileen Fisher is very available in second-hand stores and sites. I have amassed a small, happy core of the real deal.  Feels like pyjamas, looks like luxury (maybe the same thing).

I haven’t made the transition to full on caftans, but I discovered that the stretchy jersey dresses in a knee or maxi length feel like I’m wearing a nightgown all day. I’ve bought a bunch in solids because I’m boring, and one red/blue french stripe for when I don’t feel boring. I plan on wearing the shit out of these

As an early retiree* living in Boca Raton I endorse this article.

You had one job, Covid!

It’s car-racism...

This is such a ridiculous practice in the first place. If you want your employees to buy your cars, just make better cars.

“The control he had to hurt his own daughter, he loved it. I worked seven days a week ... it was like sex trafficking. I didn’t have a credit card, cash or my passport.”

I just finished A Master of Djinn in audiobook, and it was magical and exciting. Such good recomendations here.

Hey, Nekesa Afia (Dead Dead Girls) is my buddy and this is her debut novel! She's been working hard on this story for years and the book just came out last week. Beyond thrilled to see her name here. This is wonderful.

It once took me eighteen months to look for and buy a sofa. All I had in the living room was a single Scandinavian recliner and its ottoman. I decided not to spend a lot for my dream sofa and got one half the price. 12 years later I’m ready for a new sofa, and I’m going big-ticket this time. My remaining lifespan is

They get a lot of eye rolls, but LZB furniture is really the most durable. I have a couch from about 2012 that my big ass dogs lay on and lick every day, jump over the top of, and sometimes gnaw on...and it still is holding up. A little rough around the edges but totally mostly acceptable. I think I only paid like

We bought a couch from La-Z-Boy like a month ago (the Paxton, in “Smoke”, if you’re interested). It’s supposed to arrive between like September and December. So that will be nice, someday.

I did, I did.

At first, I thought you were making a political analogy.
