I guess that’s why they say to live in the moment.

Try iZombie. I promise it’s so much more than its name implies.
There’s that leaked video of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles meeting with former Oregon senator (and faithful Mormon) Gordon Smith back in 2009. Smith says his temple recommend is more important than his election certificate; a church official describes Smith’s staff as “church-broke” (“In fact, not many months ago his…
And of course the pastor describes her as “heavy-set” because on top of everything else he’s sizeist too. The only valid criticism he offered (though i don’t agree with it) is that this rendition of God is too “non-judgmental” because at least that has something to do with theology. His other complaints are just…
I’ve also been puzzled by the fact that Mormons, who allegedly hate Trump, came out for Donald the Orange on election day, when 61% of Mormon voters cast their ballots for Trump. Like, whatever happened to moral outage??
I agree with the score, although in my opinion you’ve got some pluses and minuses mixed up. The very last scene was necessary to complete the theme of hope that had been developed throughout the movie, and incidentally also bridges this film directly into “A New Hope.” I mean, imagine how bummed you’d be if it had…
I thought veep did a pretty good job with a death scene.
I’m worried that 4 years of Trump will normalize him. You know, like exposure therapy. All he really needs to do to win reelection is to not f up the economy or start any wars.
Unfortunately the fact that it favors one of the two political parties makes it unlikely for its amendment to get through the gauntlet of congress and ratification by state legislatures. It’s sort of like the issue of DC statehood: everyone agrees it makes sense, but because Republicans want to retain majorities in…
If you haven’t already read it and you feel up to some dense reading, i recommend you read an English translation of “The Death of the Author,” which is a 1967 essay written by the French literary critic Roland Barthes. He basically argues that as soon as a text is written, its author becomes external from the text…
So...Mariah Carey likes sweaty guys? I can respect that.
Genre fiction is actually an excellent vehicle for social commentary, so I’d like to push back on the idea that consuming sci-fi/fantasy media is pure escapism. People can get plenty of critical thinking done while watching big explosions and/or animated fish.
I love that book and I’d forgotten it existed. Thank you! Hopefully it’s still good as an adult.
Sometimes I wish someone would do something similar for Mormonism. It’s not as extreme as scientology, but it’s a cult nonetheless, and there are a lot of similar stories to be told. We’ve got podcasts, blogs, and r/exmormon, but no documentaries that i know of.
I think our main complaint with Trump’s reaction is that he’s being a sore winner, not that he has no evidence. You don’t need hard evidence to audit something; circumstantial evidence is good enough.
The “source” claiming the two are “close” strikes me as a celebrity tabloid convention as well. Eg “Taylor and Lorde have grown even closer these past 6 months...” Maybe reporters are having a hard time treating the family as actual news.
My astonishment lies more toward extreme cases like this, where a man is suing his ex on very shaky moral grounds just so he has a genetic child instead of “settling” for an adopted one. I don’t feel like my comment was dismissive of sexual reproduction, although i can see how it might sound that way in conjunction…
I really don’t understand some straight people’s obsession with having biological children. Like, what’s wrong with adoption? Could someone explain this for me??
For the record, I’m one gay person who has never used the word dyke. In any case, there’s a huge difference between an LGBT person using it in a proud, repurposing-slurs sort of way and an alt-right puppetmaster using it in reference to political opponents.
