Not at all suprising that the first national election since the Voting Rights Act was gutted yielded a GOP victory. 

It was a close race so whether or not it just depressed turnout or was the final push for some of those who weren’t really for either candidate, it made a difference. Was it enough of a difference? I think so but we will never know.
