Broadcast News, yes!

Giving up my age here but I was not as enamored of Say Anything as most people (kids?) were when it came out. But I watched it again some years ago and I was surprised at how well it holds up. Oddly, I think what caused me not to be as impressed with it then is actually what I like about it now. Maybe it was ahead

Also I find Liz Meriwether to be quite hot.

As Good As It Gets anyone?

Oh and speaking of this movie… Greg Kinnear is an actor who I always think I don't like until I inadvertently catch him in a film. He has an incredible ability to go from a smart-ass asshole to deeply emotional in like a nanosecond. Actually, on further thought, I need to start a new thread with my vote for "As Good

Thanks. I will have to check that out.

Yeah I think all Austen works qualify as rom-coms. I was about to say the list seems to be devoid of all (deliberate) Austen and Shakespeare adaptations but then I remembered The Cutting Edge is on here. Not sure if that fully qualifies as an adaptation or not.

I think I waited too long to see Notting Hill. I think I watched it once when I was very drunk. But anyway, I get the feeling that I would have liked it if I saw it when it first came out, but every time I have tried to watch it since, I can't get through it.

Aww, Ghost Town. So sweet, and now all I do is wish for another Ricky Gervais-centered rom-com, though I fear that was a one-off for him. He was was all sorts of awesome in that.

Yes!

I think of all the adaptations, Bridget Jones's Diary got the rom-com tone exactly right. I enjoy the Kiera Knightley version but it leaned a lot more toward gothic than rom-com, although Matthew MacFadyen was solid as Darcy.

I have sometimes wondered why I like The Cutting Edge so much, but it does have some strong elements. Maybe it's a sum is greater than the parts kind of thing. But the execution, the pitch and the pacing are solid. Pacing especially. If the movie were slowed down any, I might hate it. I also approve of the way

Yeah I love these, plus Raising Arizona. I just can't figure out why I otherwise can't stand him. But he has been in some great movies. I had forgotten all about Red Rock West so thank you for that memory!

Absolutely about Moonstruck! And that's including the fact that I pretty much hate Nick Cage. But phenomenal movie and one of the best ever "dinner table scenes" (I know it was actually breakfast).

Amen to that last bit! My Best Friend's Wedding is the only movie I have ever almost walked out on. I would have actually done so, except that I was visiting friends in another city, didn't drive, and had nowhere else to go. Dermont Mulroney is as wooden as it gets. That was a horrible movie and I enjoy a lot of

I like the movie, but Ever After is definitely not a rom-com.

You know it just occurred to me that Fawn Moscato needs to meet Meadow Soprano.

Well he did say voluminous semen…

If they do go there, I think I'd like to see it as a slow burn romance. They do have good chemistry. And they are both ridiculously talented actors. Wow.

Well maybe at least it will be like how Nick is with Cece.
