Speaking a a person who works at a non-profit that takes outside/gently used donations for our clients I can tell you where all that junk ends up. We throw away tons of those "toys" on the daily.

I was listening to BBC this morning and there was a story about stem cell research being done in Edinburgh that could lead to the ability to regrow cartilage, making hip and knee replacements less necessary.
