When a submarine implodes at great depths it creates a very intense heat akin to what happens in a diesel engine compression cycle. They were probably incinerated if not also physically disintegrated by the collapsing hull.

The question of whether the bodies would be recovered I feel was answered appropriately. They know the answer. The bodies were probably vaporized during the implosion so there’s not much, if any to recover. To answer that the environment is very unforgiving instead was a more sensitive response.

Bring everyone back home. They’ve spend enough manpower and money looking for people who, unfortunately, met their demise by way of a high-risk and completely discretionary activity. And send the bills to the OceanGate too. Maybe that will discourage the growth of this industry.

If there’s one silver lining, it’s that an implosion would have been a quick death and they wouldn’t have suffered like they would if they suffocated. 

I love that we’re spending public resources to find a bunch of billionaires stuck on the bottom of the ocean due to their own arrogance and neglect for safety. If any of them survive, they should get a huge bill for the rescue.
