After being introduced to motorcycles, performance cars have held almost zero appeal to me. I love a Sunday drive as much as the next person, but its all about vibe/location/enjoyment, not excitement, for me.

PHEVs do have the benefit of being good “only cars” for single-car families. My Volt has about 53% of all its miles on electricity only, and about 90% of the gas miles have just been on road trips.

These are primarily local issues. We shouldn't just point to a dysfunctional federal Senate and say there is nothing we can do. We need to go to local planning boards, city councils, County boards of supervisors, and state legislatures.

This is why ALL neighborhoods needs to be reconfigured to be walkable. Re-zoning, streamlining of mixed-use development, and changes to roadways to ensure pedestrian and bicyclist’s safety is paramount. Everyone deserves to live in a walkable community.

The entire point of this article is to CHANGE the built environment so everyone can live without a car. It isn’t about doing nothing and just banning cars. 

That it is expensive to live where you don’t need a car, and it is considered a luxury, really speaks to the fact that people actually DO want to live in dense urban environments. They are only rare because zoning has made it illegal to actually build them. Instead, the only legal thing to build are single-family…
