F-35B has an auto-eject function during landings/hovering because the jet can reach a tipping point faster than the pilot could react and eject. This was likely automatic. 

It can and it does and has hundreds of times. It’s still an insanely-complicated maneuver, which is bound to not go according to plan sometimes.

Quiter, cleaner regional jets would be a huge boon to small airports. I could see a future where large international airports are banned from running any flights under 300 miles, and neighbors are OK with slight expansions of smaller airports for those trips because the noise and pollution issues are way less.
