I agree with #1. However, #2 is wrong both by what the chief said, and your response. This act IS reprehensible and deserves prosecution and justice. The chief is wrong on his motivatons and the desire to protect the kids. That’s not his job. His job is to serve the law. In our country, you’re innocent until proven…

Is there a way they could fine people? Just have them agree when they enter, 100 dollar fine every time you touch something. Second time, 500, etc.

You do know there are times when ALL registers are taken at a lot of business establishments? I’ve been in grocery stores in the middle of summer with 30 open registers and a huge line at each.
