from what i understand, public schools in the US don’t have any significantly exclusionary quotas, even if they’re selective and intensely competitive. case in point, UC Berkeley, which is full of Asians.

so this is just anecdotal, but the people that complain about minority candidates with low GPA’s benefiting from affirmative action tend not to be people that have high tier GPA’s anyway.

doesn’t this only happen at private institutions? and with stuff like post doctoral work, it’s not like the opportunity is ever entirely denied. it’s intensely competitive for anyone anyway.
