Yeah, that ending was definitely produced with an eye to cancellation.

I think that’s the problem with this show. It tonally sits, sometimes uncomfortably, between super serious sci-fi drama a la BSG and not as serious, slightly campy 2000's sci-fi like Firefly. For what it is I think it is excellent. The world-building is literally top 5, over *all* media, for me.

It’s a zero-sum game to them. If white, straight males aren’t winning 24/7 then any, and I do mean ANY character outside that narrow field getting attention is a ‘loss’ to them.

Also, I think - as much as I like the show version - the character’s motivations work a bit better in the books where she’s much younger.
