“Mainly what I regret is that I directed it, because I am a terrible hack who ruins everything I touch.”

My vote for supporting MVP is definitely Chuck. That scene in the courtroom where Jimmy exposes and exploits Chuck’s mental illness is one of the best pieces of television I’ve ever seen.

I truly despise Caviezel for ruining my memories of this great show by being an absolute turd in real life.

Agreed.

Yeah, there’s a difference between “misguided” and “worn out”...

I agree. S4 in particular was pretty rough at times. It’s good to be able to laugh at yourself, but not if it stops the audience taking you seriously, and I think they were really on the edge of that in S4. Fortunately they pulled it back. [S5 had its own issues, mind you.]

“He gave us this!”

Dowd flourishes his cape and disappears into the dark of night one last time. Godspeed, sir. Until the critic-signal appears in the clouds again, we’ll be watching.

Hey folks. I just wanted to drop in and say thank you to everyone here for all the kind words, and also for reading what I’ve written at The A.V. Club these past nine years. I know I wasn’t always the most consistent presence in the comments, even before the Kinja transition, but I dipped in fairly regularly, and for

God, I miss Justified. And can I say, for a guy who comes off as such a goof in interviews, Olyphant excels at playing seething rage.

During the hell-scape we have had to endure lately, this is exactly the news we needed. The return of one of the best shows on TV, with much the same creative team, with more great source material. There is every reason to believe this will again be fantastic.

I love the idea of a beehive TARDIS but it really lacks some cosy corners and a bookshelf or something. Capaldi’s TARDIS was so great because it reflected his Doctor’s personality and interests. It was an extension of the character with his more professor/teacher thing going on. The chalkboard was genius as a prop!

I don’t know if it’s the objectively worst series ever because it’s extremely different but it’s definitely the most wasted one.

The letter grade says, “This is good,” and the recap says, “Hope you enjoy being spoon-fed recycled pap.” And they can both be right. I’m sure fans will love this. And if, like me, you thought that The Mandalorian was aggressively mediocre in almost every way, this is sure to be another forgettable meal from the The

Here is my ranking and reasoning.

While I enjoyed the series overall, it seemed like it was trying to tell three stories instead of one—-started off as a man vs. the evil world-dominating corporation, then a man grappling with his early childhood demons, and then an entire other narrative about Whiterose trying to correct the trauma of his/her youth

I think TLJ is absolutely the most fresh and exciting this tired franchise has been in nearly 40 years. But, it comes with a caveat. Of course there are parts of TLJ that were poorly conceived (the entire Canto sequence, the fake Kylo-Luke duel, to name a few). However, the highs are very high. I will stan for the

Your criticisms of GRRM are without a doubt spot fucking on. Thank you for that.

The Capaldi era, more than any other, was a concerted effort to deconstruct aspects of the show and your mileage will vary in terms of how well that resonates with you. I absolutely loved it and easily find series 8 - 10 the strongest of the revived series.

Happy to see the Leftovers and Halt and Catch Fire place so high. Those two shows reached some incredible highs in each of their respective final seasons, becoming two of the best shows ever made in the process.
