Actually, the guy is fine. Your point would be valid if he was moving and then stopped abruptly (like a football player). However, having an object stop abruptly on his head (and be diffused by the helmet) is fine.

I mean... a strong helmet will prevent injuries to the skull, but no amount of protection will ever stop a brain from rapidly accelerating and then decelerating by slamming into the side of your head, which is the real issue with head injuries.
