I think the author was more focusing on the fact that the villain’s goal to bring Set to FLESH (not life) needed Cruise because he had the reincarnated soul of her lover/previous chosen one (they were nearly through the summoning ritual the first time around before Egyptians killed that guy and shoved her into a stone…
