It’s the rawness too. I want one, and I also want a C8 to have too at the same time - one for when I want to be me+car=win, and one where I want to be a bit more comfy, if not a bit faster too. Kinda like the NB Miata and ZL1 I currently have. :)

No idea. The Eagle F1 that came on my ZL1 (and on the C6/C7s) has warnings about cracking under 40 degrees ambient; they had major issues with those for a bit. For whatever reason, they wanted something that would handle that kind of cold, and better handle normal warmer weather too...?
Way different driving experiences. I like the Pony ‘verts, but they’re really cruisers, not sports cars (classic definition here). If you want more power than the Miata (and a bit more room), but still the sports car feel, you jump ALL the way to the Z4 or the 718. I’d love one in the middle, personally, that…
And is dead. The 370Z roadster was killed this year (also had one of the worst clutches ever).
The HP wars are getting old, and I never thought I’d say that. Both my daily driver (450HP TTV8) and my toy (580HP SC V8) have more power than I could ever use. To get to the point where the dynamic suspension modes/etc can even start to work you have to break triple digits, and one of them is a 4-door sedan! Up to…
“Three Season” on the article I read - not snow, really, or wet and cold, but able to handle the cold on its own (which is big for some of us). Mornings over 40 degrees don’t show up till late May here some years. And may go away by mid-august.
I drive an M550. I also have a ZL1 and an NB Miata. The ZL1 I bought new, the M CPO, and the Miata (obvs) quite used. I’m planning on getting a C8. It’s not a daily, but it’ll be a toy. I could have bought the M550 new, but my use case for it CPO makes a LOT more sense (I drive a LOT of miles).
I don’t know if I’d call it overpriced; I looked at it and put it on the list of “maybe in a couple of years, once we get reliability numbers” - but it got taken right the fark off with the C8 coming out. The vette reset the market. Now I’d only look at the Supra as a daily option if it was around 35; as it is, I’d…
But... I was saving for a C8...
I almost bought a WRX. Ended up with a CPO M550 instead :) Still need fun in the utility vehicle, after all - but I spent so much bloody time in it, the BMW made sense. Miss the stick though.
Sure, except I’m guaranteed to be able to use it in July and August. The rest of the year is hit-or-miss, and snow tires aren’t enough to qualify with our legal wrangling (and I hate chains). So it’s a toy.
I didn’t lump the people in - I lumped the SNOW in ;) And the salt.
I think you’re confused - the QF is RWD only, which makes it as much a toy as the C7/8. Except burdened with two extra doors and rear seats.
I always wondered about those, to be honest. But with that weight and heft, I figured they were just fast and smooth.
Because we already know it’s a steaming pile waiting to destroy your wallet. I’d pay $20k for it - mostly because at that point, I’d get ~maybe~ the remaining warranty out of it, then have to ditch it shortly thereafter, as I’m not paying to keep it on the road.
Not really from what I’ve seen. More traction, better computers - it’s fast, but there’s nothing scary about it, unless you totally turn the nannies off - and that’s stupid. I’m not a race car driver by profession.
Ah yes, not only one that is proven unreliable, but one ragged on by journalists, through Detroit snow (because of course), raced and abused, and might have run over a small animal, all for the low-low price of a brand new C7 with discounts or a great down payment on a C8.
I have a 13 ZL1. Same sentiment applies. First is scary - after that, it’s a big car with a big engine. Doesn’t help that I’m at 6000 ft. Now it keeps pulling all the way to orbital-insertion speeds, but that just gets you in trouble.
If you expect the M5 to be a sports car, luxury sedan, and exotic beater all in one... well, it’ll disappoint, but it’ll do a pretty good job of all three in the same drive too. I have an M550 (baby M5), and it’s a great limo, pretty good sports-sedan, and pretty good sports-thing, but it’s not amazing at any of them…
It’s not a Toyota, it’s a BMW. I’ve got a BMW, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a BMW. Same in HP? The vette is starting at 495hp, the supra is at (an underrated) 335. One is a front-engine sports car, the other is mid-engine. I like the Supra, but I can’t justify why I’d buy one over the ‘vette anymore, and hte Supra was…
