Agreed. The Los Angeles Times headline for the story was “Melissa Barrera dropped from ‘Scream VII’ after pro-Palestinian posts,” which is more accurate. Even more accurate would just be that she was fired for telling the truth.

We are really fucked.

nothing she said quoted here is wrong or antisemitic. It’s just the plain old obvious that everybody with eyes can plainly see.

She wasn’t fired “over comments about Israel” as the headline states, and framing it this way makes it seem like she went off and said something crazy anti-Semitic.

Your comment isn’t completely wrongheaded, but you’re still talking about “most actors” when Vellani is already not “most actors” anymore. Personally, I think she’s got real charisma, too.

I think underremarked is that the movie came out right at the end of the WGA-SAG strike—I don’t think Marvel’s marketing is particularily good to begin with, but all the little pops of promo that didn’t happen feel unaccounted for. Personally, I liked it better Captain Marvel as a movie, but more concretely, if

I mostly agree, though not sure you can blame the directors for much of anything, given Marvel pays them a ton of money, gives them huge exposure, then tells them the movie they will make and will still go edit it later without the director’s input.  There’s a reason some directors turn them down--Edgar Wright, of

100%, though her family is a close second.  And then the cats.  And then the other people in this movie. And then the villain, which apparently is how Marvel intends it to be.

She was easily the best part of the film. Teyonah Parris and Brie Larson seemed to be sleeping through their parts.

That’s “fazed,” Barsanti. Nobody’s getting “phased” unless we’re in Star Trek.

Too bad Cocoppenheimbear never became a thing.

I saw two movies that stared Alden Ehrenreich this year and both were very good films for completely different reasons. And he was good in them. Those two films: Cocaine Bear and Oppenheimer. Which is to back up your point that he is doing just fine after Solo.

I have to think that the low box office spells bad news for those other revenue streams. There’s a reason blockbuster movies are called “tentpoles;” they hold up the tent of ancillary revenue. Now having said that, I have to think Iger will absolutely say, “Still worth it.” It’s still Marvel, and Iger’s comments

This is a hot take. Both of those actors careers are fine. They’re not superstar level, but they’re still making good money and have been in /are going to be starring in mainstream things still. Given how Alden Ehrenreich was a relative unknown prior to Solo, he’s still getting a main starring role in the upcoming

Having a big budget movie that you’re starring in flame out is no problem at all.  Just ask Alden Ehrenreich how things went after “Solo”, or Brandon Routh how his career’s been since “Superman Returns.”  No problem at all...

That’s a good attitude to have. Kudos to her.

It has superheroes, it takes place in space, it’s not that deep, and it’s about teamwork and sisterhood.

Her? Yeah, no. Disney’s trying to eliminate that kind of stuff for even the biggest names. How successful they’ll be, I can’t say, but they do not want another Johansson kerfuffle. They want absolute freedom to call audibles on theater windows, streaming windows, and all the rest, and if you’ve got points spread out

Good attitude for an actor to have, and in keeping with the level-headed positivity we’ve seen from her so far. Her job is to put in a good performance, she had a good time doing it, she likes what they made. Everything else is SEP.

I enjoyed the movie. She’s easily the best part of it. Without her, I doubt I would have liked it as much.
