It’ll be interesting to see what the Japanese manufacturers come out with and if Triumph can get their bikes to showroom floors first. It’s a 1970's rivalry redux, what a great time to be on two wheels!

Point of comparison for a car that was considered thirsty 18 years ago. It’s honestly an embarrassment that Subaru can’t get this together.
Most carmakers will attempt to game the system by providing the highest possible number, rather than a realistic number.
Me while reading: “There’s gotta be something about meth in here somewhere”
Don’t worry, that’s coming next. I’m going to be working this beat (lol) further and deeper.
I can’t comment on the situation at large, other than it sucks. But wanted to say, that’s some great investigative journalism. 👍
Who is behind this? Its not like this is eating into new car sales or anything. As far as safety is concerned, there are bigger fish to fry than a niche community. As a Delica owner in PA, this is infuriating. I’ve had my van for 3 years now, never had any hassle or anything. Clean title, registration, all that.
This is G/O media so more like “Ten best ways to approach your roommate when they leave car parts in the dishwasher”
If you use a truck for work, it better also be MISERABLE to live with, amirite?
“It’s a cellular phone, a wireless computer, a PDA, a games console, and a camera all in one. It doesn’t do any of those things well, mind you, in fact it sucks at most of them compared to dedicated hardware,”
I don’t understand why so many people...usually non-truck people...equate a single-cab 8-foot bed truck with “work truck”. Granted, most manufacturers present their stripped-down extended-cab models as work trucks for fleets, but most independent contractors and tradesmen I know drive crew cabs because they like them,…
Yeah, I always kind of laugh about it too. I own both a 2 door and a 4 door pickup. I think most people greatly underestimate the utility of some extra cab space and overestimate the utility of a foot or two more bed space. There is a reason 4 doors fly off the shelves, even for most fleet vehicles it seems these days…
Its only like 8" longer than a most sedans. It gets better gas mileage than most sedans. It cost the same as most the sedans. But it is way more useful than most sedans.
Everyone here pretends single cab pickups are viable and manufacturers just refuse to make them.
Cars across the board have become larger than their 1990s counterparts. In today’s world, in context with other trucks on the market, it is a compact truck. Maybe not on a global scale, but here in the US for sure. Even compact cars today are the size of mid-size sedans from 30 years ago, but we still call them…
This is a silly argument. A Ford Ranger super cab was 204 inches long with a 125 inch long wheelbase. A Maverick has a 200 inch length and a 121 inch wheel base. If you made a regular cab Maverick it would most likely be even shorter than a regular cab Ranger.
Is the bed that much smaller? The “old” (pre-12) Ranger had a 7’ box max, but most trucks had a 6’ bed. The Maverick gets four real seats and a 6’ bed with the tailgate down. Yeah you’re sacrificing maybe 9” of bed space, but you’re getting a back seat that can fit humans. My point is, seems like a small compromise…
It’s small and that’s okay. In fact, it’s a good thing.
Makes me think of when Honda applied their CVCC tech to a 350 small block... in 1973. The CEO of GM said the CVCC was suitable for “toy engines”.... It’s a great story.
I mean, it has to actually work.
