I grew up with the idea that “whatever car the kid can afford” is a good first car.
Therefore I have 2 questions:
1)How many people are buying their kid $15k-20k first cars?

Driving doesn’t seem like the rite of passage it used to be. I would have rather walked than drive mom’s Prius. The kids these days don’t seem to care.
A US News And World Report article cited the Wrangler as one of the most dangerous cars for teens due to its rollover risk.
I’ve read that a 16 year old’s brain and an 18 year old’s brain is drastically different.
Viggen crooks!
“I have receipts totalling over $8800 spent on this old girl.”
Exactly!
More importantly, you NEVER get back the labor you paid for work done on the car. I’m not going to pay more because you can’t change clutch or exhaust.
Ugh. I lived with the bad synchro in 2nd, then 3rd, finally 4th started acting weird. Only car I’ve owned that had issues like that and I’ve had a lot.
Please don’t comment and drive.
“buy my money-pit!”
170k, 175hp, $8,800 into a partial rebuild, $8000 asking? Hard CP. I’m CP at half that price and I very seriously considered a Saab 9-3 20 years ago. Nice, funky car, but way too much dough for something so slow.
CP - there’s an extra zero in that price... must’ve been a typo.
They’re all too busy rebuilding their made of glass five speeds to find the time to vote.
Yeah, somebody needs to tell this guy that you rarely, if ever, get back what you put in. It’s a cool car, but it’s not a Roadrunner; sinking $8k into a car like this is a terrible investment.
I’m a sucker for saabs too and my brother owned one of these which I drove a few times and it was the pinnacle of 900... that said I’m having trouble spending $8k on a 170k car ... the fact it was just semi-restored for $8.8k as the seller notes only makes me question why it’s being sold so quickly?
I’ve tried to do the same thing as your wife, but there are enough crazy people out there with pent up anger that I wouldn’t immediately think someone was trying to help me. I’d first think “what’s this person’s problem?” Maybe I would realize that it is me, and not because I did something that upset him, but I am…

I have one in my yard. Interior needs work but it’s in good shape.
I love ads where they tell you they put more into it than what they are asking for it. That’s not helping your ad. Just don’t say that.
