Cauliflower AND red peppers in the same soup? Gimme. :)

Can we combat this stupid soup (soupid?) diet fad by sharing our favorite soup recipes?

‘[...] sometimes your best is not enough’ is a terrible message that, rather than incentivising kids to somehow do better than their best effort, actually just makes them feel like shit.

I agree 100%. My students who seem proudest of their participation trophies are often my special needs students. It’s a symbol that they belong and I see nothing wrong with that.

With my students, I try to get them to stop comparing themselves to others and just look at their own progress. They are special ed and know that they aren’t at the same place as other kids. I have to tell them they can’t compare themselves to others. They need to look where they were at and where they were now.

This whole thing is super funny because it inevitably brings out people saying, “There won’t be a trophy when they’re ADULTS and enter the REAL WORLD!”

You don’t need to remind most kids on a sports team of that. The ones who aren’t very good are acutely aware of it.

Ok, see I’m a gigantic potterhead myself and I detest Snape from a personal standpoint. He’s a great complicated character but being heartbroken is no excuse for an adult man to bully a 13 year old girl to tears (that moment when he tells her he can’t tell any difference after she’s been hit with a spell that causes

Serious denial. I am a unrepentant potterhead, and you are in SERIOUS DENIAL.

Snape is just about the Nicest Guy(TM) there is.

No shit. My kids try this sometimes, its because they are inexperienced. My son asked for fried chicken strips but not crunchy. He was 4. My wife and I did not pass on his request to staff. We explained to him that fried means crunchy. The chicken will be battered and then pan or deep fried. The batter will get

At the very least, if your child is an insanely picky eater and you’re going to a restaurant, prepare accordingly.

Isn’t it just amusing as all hell? I’m in my 60s and voted in my first national election for McGovern (I remember all the way back to Eisenhower). This election cycle is fascinating and I’ve never seen anything like it. Go Trump! Implode that disaster of a GOP.

It’s August. People go on vacation in August. I mean, I don’t because I like the cooler weather and thinner crowds in October and April, but people with young children tend to go on vacation in August.

Disney is fucked up. It sounds like Miley came out relatively sane (and explains her rebelling against her image of the past years). I have a soft spot for her. She seems smart and I love her acoustic Background Sessions - I wish she would record those! Girl can sure belt out some tunes.

This is why I love my Amazon wishlist. I use it mostly for things I intend to get myself, but whenever my mum goes “So what would you like for your birthday?” I can just send her the link and say “Feel free to get literally anything on this list!”

I actually don’t mind those, it takes a lot of effort and guesswork out of the gift-giving. Ah, you’re getting married? What can I afford? One fork? Excellent, happy wedding, here is your dinglehopper.

I think many, many of us have veeeery similar photos from our childhoods :)

That’s a loss prevention tactic, the classic “can I hold these at the register for you?” which would be followed by a “Would you like me to start a fitting room for you?” while grabbing the clothes in my hand, or just surreptitiously “adjusting” or “tidying” the items right next to me, while moving toward me the

Yeah there were lots of mediocre people (academically and otherwise) in my gifted programs, but we were also 8-12 years old so. (Sneaky brag about being gifted 20 years ago; I’m also really clever FYI.)
