If his deportation is part of a wide net that deports people who are not evil monsters (which it is) then better to keep him here in prison.

I think they decided at the last minute to do this. Many, possibly most, hotels don’t have procedures to rent out a conference room at the last minute even if they have one available.

They are excusing all the people you would probably not be cool with being executed/deported by giving the worst examples. Not only does this play on the sympathies of the average person but it also takes up attention/time from showing all the many more people who should not be getting executed or deported.

He was in prison here. The fact that he is an obvious bad person is convenient cover and a distraction. He will not continue to be punished for his crimes once he is sent back to Ethiopia. He will, instead, have ample opportunity to do this to more people.

I may be incorrect, IANAL, but I think 1st degree murder charges indicate the DA’s office is arguing premeditation. The intent to kill, not just destroy the home and accidentally killing someone in the process.
