Something I like doing if I’m not directly underneath the car - if I’m like doing brakes or something - is to put my wheels underneath the rocker so if it collapses, the wheel will take the brunt.

‘54 bel air with a 3 on the tree and non-working brakes. I had to drive that fucker across town one day with a lot of steep up and downhills. About halfway through, my brakes cut and I had to use the ergonomically terrible handbrake (one where you twist and pull) to bring it to a stop.
