When I heard that George Michael had passed away from a Facebook post, I checked three sources before I believed it to be true.

Except the “new” is also in reference to the “old” king of King David (as in the old king, David, was this great king and with Jesus’ birth a new, greater king had come—David, his role and importance, is very critical in understanding this language). While, yes, Jesus isn’t new and it’s not just “this” Christmas, but…
Ugh. When liberals and anti-Trump people do this it makes all of us look bad and feeds into the stereotype that liberals can’t be Christians.
I grew up in a southern baptist church and every year at Christmas, the language used was Christmas was about celebrating the arrival of “a new King” as well as the titles you reference. I believe this was because, IIRC, Jesus was the new king and the old king being King David (from Old Testament).
Okay, you win. The GOP is subtly laying the groundwork for the restoration of the American monarchy by using ambiguous language in Reince Priebus’ Christmas announcement.
You used the word “king” three times to make this point. Jesus fucking Christ.
I tried pointing out on Twitter that referring to Christ as the new King (present tense, capital letter) is something that Christians generally do every Christmas, and was called a Russian stooge by about 15 people with #StillWithHer in their bios. Bovine stupidity... it’s not just for the right wing.
