That is not too out of line. Acording to some back of the napkin math for my daily driver, if I count deprecitation, fuel, maintenance, insurance, I come up with $.59/mile operating cost for my car.

Buying a 200k mile Italian car is just nuts. I can’t imagine what it cost to maintain it that long, which makes me think it wasn’t.

If you want to get into autocrossing and racing, I’ll suggest a Miata. You can get a really nice one for $15K. 4 years ago I bought a 2007 Grand Touring with 22K Miles for $13K. I went with the Grand Touring because I wanted heated seats. Now you should be able to get a low milage NC2.5 for that money.

I’ve always thought that commercial vehicles were a better place to start with electrification. There are a lot of commercial vehicles that run set routes, and they drive enough that the OpEx savings can outweigh any increase in CapEx. I think there is a lot of room in the market for an electric medium duty truck.

Isin’t this the same model car that Doug DeMuro ran through KBB and got a negative value.

Yep I want those features on my next car. By the time I’m ready to buy again, hopefully those will be more common on the used market.

Can confirm on the seals drying out. My 2007 Miata only has 38K miles on it. Every time I move it there is a half dollar sized spot of oil on my garage floor.

Neutral: The last payment on my daily driver is in Janurary. It only has 96K miles on it, so I won’t be replacing it for a while. I’m in my late 30’s and I’ve never had a new car, always bought used. Every time I go to buy a car I always start out looking at new ones, but end up buying used. There is just too much

Does Jalopnik not have interns? If not, y’all should get one just to compile the data for this article.

The reason is that in the US at least, no one will buy it.

Every time I see a Lincoln I think, that I should have looked at those when I bought my car a few years ago. I would have, but I kind of forgot about them.

Those numbers made me think of how far engines have com in the past 30 years. The malaise era were dark times.

Years ago I rented a Toyota Camry to take on a road trip, because my truck had bad ball joints, and the AC was out in my 15 year old BMW and it was July in the South.

A tip for cars that don’t have all this detail. Contact the manufacturer with the VIN and ask them to send you the build sheet. I did that when I bought my used Durango, and found that it had a couple of features that I wanted, but were not listed in the ad. FCA makes it pretty easy, as there is a web form you can

That chopped Cherokee really needs a Hemi swap and long travel suspension.

I had an 85 Ford Ranger with the 2.8. It was pretty gutless, and it had that stupid feedback carburetor that I never could get to work right.

Wasn’t the S-Type the one that was a Mondeo in drag?

Guess the engineer forgot to point at his watch.

I really want a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. It would be comfortable for the long road trips I take several times a year. Enough seats to haul all my friends out to the lake, my bicycle would fit in the back, plenty of room for Costco trips. Plus I could do the bulk of my driving on electric power.

You say that, but we get winter in Texas too. The other day a cold front moved through central Texas. I was mildly uncomfortable, and had to put my seat heaters on the low setting.
