And frankly, while the joke does build on the fact that Taylor has dated many men, the punchline arguably *was* supportive saying that she didn’t need them.

That could be her concern, but that is not necessarily the production’s responsibility. Under union rules, they are required to reimburse travel and transportation, not supply it. In this case, they supplied rental cards. A celebrity can negotiate one, but most A-listers with drivers are just employing whoever they

I think the “if the internet was around” aspect is what could lead credence to her being “more famous” in the sense that she’s more readily available worldwide 24 hours a day 7 days a week than the Beatles were in their heyday.

I think a lot of this stems from the idea that all of her relationships are publicity stunts and not genuine, which simply does not seem to be reality.

I’m also pretty sure the joke and the beef and whatever else we want to say existed between Taylor Swift and Tina Fey hasn’t messed up either of their careers. So is Jo Koy’s takeaway supposed to be make a joke about T. Swift and maybe you get to be Tina Fey? I don’t think that’s what he should be planning for.

He struggled on that joke hard. You could barely hear him say the word camera and then he tacked on “there’s just more to see here!” when there was a groan. On top of it, the punchline is undercut by the fact that they literally DO have a camera on her. It was a dumb joke poorly delivered.

At least the bit with Tina Fey/Amy Poehler managed to get the joke out and it had a punchline. Let’s not ignore the fact where Jo Koy fumbled the joke on top of it being not funny.

I’m sure you like thinking you know more than other people, but no, not all actors have drivers who drive them to set especially on smaller budget films and in many cases, private drivers are not paid for by production. The only actors who always have private drivers are A-listers working on large budget films.

“One of the biggest movies of the year was a dissection of the intricate nuances of government politics and freedom and the other one was Oppenheimer!”

Lanthimos is very good at getting very compelling (and often odd) performances out of his actors, which I also think likely helps him gain momentum. I agree it’s lesser Lanthimos to me, but Emma Stone is really showing she’s capable of making bold choices. Ruffalo does some interesting things that are different for

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but neither the book nor the stage musical suggest that to the best of my recollection. Celie literally sings a song about how she doesn’t need anyone other than herself and that she sees clearly how things are now so it would be odd to me for that to be a message, but it has been a while

They all presumably drive in LA, which is some of the most horrific conditions around. They also paid for their rental cars (and presumably the related insurance). If you drive in your personal life (which Henson does), it seems like an odd line in the sand to make and minimally, she isn’t framing it in a way where

In fairness, being a non-profit was just a tax dodge for the HFPA so at least they’re not trying to pretend otherwise now.

WB did push back on KJ Apa’s claim that he fell asleep because of work obligations stating that he had been repeatedly offered both rides and hotel rooms so I do think there’s some level of actors and actresses being able to say “I am very tired and unsure I should drive” just like non-actors need to do after long

I think he was trying to be Ricky Gervais in some ways where he could have probably fared much better taking a more subtle approach - Filipino comedian makes good and spends the night with huge celebrities and is just so dang happy to be there is probably an approach he could have taken on a night of big wins for

I knew we were in trouble when he made that Barbie-boobies joke. It was pretty clear he didn’t have the zeitgeist on the movies up for awards.

I think there are a few misleading things here:

Thunderbolts is SO behind schedule that I suspect they honestly just couldn’t make it work.

There’s a documentary called “Reel Injun” that uses an example of the dialogue being backward English. To the best of my knowledge, it wasn’t in a well known film and it was a very early film, but the stuff they did in well known films wasn’t substantially better.

I think some of the Poor Things hype is a “let’s give Yorgos Lanthimos his roses” vibe.
