From what I remember, his political ideologies in his youth were largely conservative at the time, even without The Post, but as he grew older he became much more liberal (again for the time) and wanted to paint reality instead of an idealized reality. A change of nature like that is, to me at least, a bit inspiring.

While most of Rockwell’s work portrayed an idealized vision of America, he did paint a few that showed some of America’s darker side:
