That heatwave was indeed brutal and murder-inducing. I got so many dirty looks from people when I went strolling out for lunch in a jacket that I forgot to take off and didn’t want to carry. It’s like just looking at me kicked the temp up a couple of degrees.

I thought about the Halloween factor, but I am ambivalent about it. Talk about something that aint worth the trouble (except for the credit for discount candy it creates for November—that’s solid).

The Walking Dead was mildly worth the trouble for maybe a season. I will credit it for prompting me to get Sling (which was a good choice), but otherwise co-sign it being expendable.

Hating March and hating October are pretty much the same to me weather-wise (and allergy-wise too I hear). October does have “Columbus” Day which is the worst, although that and President’s Day are both optional holidays at my job and most folks do one or the other.

I get all the process stuff about constitutional advice and consent, but it’s always seemed weird to me that the actual Justices don’t get a meaningful role (maybe they do behind closed doors, but I don’t think so). I mean, they have to work pretty closely with a new person for most of the year for decades. I don’t

It serves several purposes, though. Many, maybe even most, Americans don’t really understand how the Supreme Court works. Showing the absurdity of this process is an educational service.

I have seen no evidence that his personal beliefs have influenced his professional responsibilities and prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt

I used to have an unhealthy relationship with tanning because of how much my family teases me for being so light skinned. To move away from that, I now won’t go seeking a tan, but I’m not jumping through hoops to avoid it outside of putting on sunscreen given the reasonable amount of time I spend in the sun.

For me, two reasons: My skin-tone definitely looks more even when it’s tanned. I just look better with a deeper color, especially on my legs. Also, I grew up as a very light-skinned person among dark skinned parents and siblings. Putting aside for a moment that the impact of colorism is way worse for darker skinned

I’d say she could use an Amandla intervention, but that’s not on her and she’s got better things to do.

I think a lot of people don’t really get the distinction between censorship and discretion. I’m really supportive of people being candid about their perspective. But there’s something to being thoughtful about what we say and how we say it in making our points. Obviously, people can express themselves however they

That’s a weird take.

As soon as I saw the photo credit going to someone named Karen, I cracked up.

The towel on the neck was such a game changer when I was living in South Texas and biked everywhere. I’d use an ice pack when I was especially worried about my bike helmet--my hair was turning it into a mini-oven. I had actually ditched my helmet for a while because of that and this helped bring it back.

Totally agree on that latter point. I watched my siblings’ kids over holidays and summers for several years so they wouldn’t have to pay for daycare. Same with at least 2 of my friends when I was freelancing. That’s not even counting being emergency childcare.

I don’t see Schumer as having zero power. There are arguments to make about strategy—thwarting quorum, elevating this to be an election issue, rallying the Dem base. Then again, I think being cynical and defeatist about the short- and long-term game on this is about as useful as Schumer. Leading by example to keep

I’ll echo others’ comments about the terrible state of affairs when it comes to elected judges and dark money.

This is also an example of how repro rights and LGBTQ rights tend to track each other. Gay marriage suffers from similar issues in that it’s one high profile aspect of the variety of legal impediments affecting LGBTQ equality. Obergefell was a victory, but there is still a lot of active and successful litigation

Same story in the midwest. It’s a travesty. And of course it takes away a major tool for places where state legislators haven’t been or won’t be proactive. I imagine it’ll be kind of like what happened with Shelby County and voting rights that emboldened states to behave badly. Like what happened last week with labor

Yep, that’s why I said almost. Texas (where I’m from) is particularly egregious on that point. But I think it’s good to remind people that you can accomplish a constructive ban even without overturning Roe v. Wade as if that’s the switch that will change everything. Sadly, we have to stay vigilant across the board.
