Yeah, my family is super-black, but I was educated K through law school in overwhelmingly white environments (that was within a mixed environment). That arguably has as profound an impact on easier social and professional relationships in white spaces as having white relatives.

Saying that black folks receive white privilege is problematic because it entirely DISCOUNTS light-skinned points, something we joke about in the black community that is a real thing.

I support the potato salad rules in theory. In practice, my family just gets a bucket of it from Bill Miller and calls it a day.

I’d try that for sure. sounds delicious.

Actually, I do too, although the hierarchy for me is sugar first, then cheese, then savory/salt & pepper. But always butter.

I appreciate that. I think the love you’re putting out into the universe will increase tenfold once you accept grits with butter and sugar into your life, heart, and soul. I’ll also accept cheese grits.

Right! These fools were dealing crazy and turning cards over and reversing the order, etc. No. You can do that in your own house, but not in neutral territory.

Seriously. I’m a bit of an executioner on that point myself.

I remain too busy enjoying my sugar in grits to fight about putting sugar in grits (because that’s what Texans do). If anything, I’m gonna fight with people who leave out the butter. What’s the point then?

I played Spades like 2 weeks ago with a group of 20- and 30-somethings who brought a particularly ridiculous list of project rules to the table.

WRT Barack Obama’s portrait, I really love that he picked an artist with such a distinctive style and point of view as Kehinde Wiley. And that’s spot on for his style (I’m not an art buff by any stretch of the imagination, but I recognized it immediately). Reading the significance of the background, it makes sense to

I don’t care, I love ice dancing. That mess looks crazy hard, and you have to be incredibly strong and coordinated to do it.

She is so stunning. I can see her being a dream subject to style given her willingness to get out there with these bold looks and make it seem flawless.

Conversations like these, always remind me of Fran Ross’ book Oreo (which is really funny) and her color chart—followed by a note that made me laugh out loud.

I’d add that it’s also up to the friends to not be bothered when the ex-partners end up being bothered.

I think JT is a hardworking showman and makes albums that are half good, but he should have left Prince out of this, got himself a better outfit and a couple of quality cameos and called it a day. He cannot carry a show like that, much less one as mediocre as he made it. The overall lack of self-reflection and

Even 1 cameo (of a person who is alive) would have made all the difference.

Yep, pretty much. It wasn’t a bad performance and I think he’s a pretty good showman, but he’s not at the level where he can carry a venue like that. He would have been better served with guest stars; or not trying to appropriate the world’s love of a better showman; or even spending more time playing an instrument
