Currently in the slow cooker is butternut apple soup: 2 lbs of peeled and seeded butternut squash, two peeled and chopped apples, 4 cups of chicken broth, 1 cup of apple cider, and cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and curry powder. At about 4 pm, I’ll throw it in the blender with some half-and-half.

I’ll throw out “Breakdown”, always loved that dark groove...

I was there too and you woulda been really hard pressed to find a part of his show that was slowing down. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

Wow, look at you with your fancy lunch ice packs! When I was a kid we let the Salmonella in our chicken salad sandwiches run rampant, and we liked it!

I just started making my own dressing a few weeks ago and it is worth the small effort. It tastes better, you already have all of the stuff in your cupboard and, on top of that, less goes to waste. I can never use my dressing fast enough, and you don’t want just one kind of dressing all of the time so then all of these

it really is. i remember keith phipps in an old avclub video saying that his favorite 2011 moment in all pop culture was the line ‘i still keep my baby teeth in the bedside table with my jewelry’ and it’s kinda hard to disagree.

“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” like 300 times in a row.

I think a lot of people underestimate how hard it would be for Claire to be a single mom in 1948, even with an inheritance from her uncle. How would she explain where the dad was? Even the truth- he’s dead- would raise questions if anyone tried to look into it.

It’s like a nautilus shell and you want to press your ear against it and hear the ocean.

I have a lot of hot Beatles-related takes, but my spiciest is probably that I like All Things Must Pass better than any actual Beatles album.

David Rawling’s Poor David’s Almanack has been some great old time music to have on in my office and short drives. I love the whole album, but it’s very easy to enjoy something like “Airplane” driving between hospitals

Probably more Husker Du, as one of their founding members just died of cancer. RIP Grant.

Trump’s still president and I’m still in the grays. This world is fucked!

It’s a difference of showrunners. Simon has a great track record. Terence Winter is a good writer, but he’s no showrunner.

That song is exactly 1:30 seconds too long.

I’m venturing out of my comfort zone in the last week or so and listening to a lot of African influenced (or straight up African) music.

I saw him do “Elephant” for maybe the first or second time live ever. He was doing an acoustic tour, small, maybe a half dozen gigs, opening for Todd Snider and we were the first or second night of the tour and he was testing the “Southeastern” songs on the road for the first time. I had seen him live once before,

I guess I meant it was a little out of left field considering that I had been listening to Steely Dan and Queens of the Stone Age. Low is probably my favorite Bowie album.

New stuff: The War On Drugs’ A Deeper Understanding, and LCD Soundsystem’s American Dream; Part of my ‘listen to each album you acquire at least twice’ initiative that I managed to get to this week: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Push The Sky Away, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Alleujah! Don’t Bend Ascend.

Gaucho runs out of steam, but the first half is solid. Babylon Sisters is one of my favorite Dan songs.
