The commentariat’s animus against shorting is irrational and naive. Do you think people should be allowed to sell their long positions? Why? The seller is betting the stock will go down. Do you think people shouldn’t be allowed to sell borrowed securities that they’ve promised to return later? That’s what you do…
Shorting isn’t “betting against the market” any more than selling a long position is.
They didn’t say it’s been 72 hours.
Percentage depreciation is irrelevant. What matters is the absolute depreciation in dollars. So the best way to get a good return is not to spend a lot of money in the first place.
A family that’s just getting by in the Bay Area on a combined income of $180K cannot simply move to Nebraska and live like kings, because they won’t earn $180K there.

Selling other vehicles with proportionally higher MPG and in proportionally higher numbers prescribed by statute rather than demand, and/or buying credits, both eliminate the business case for manufacturing the aforementioned big trucks to current demand.
In 2018, you can get a faster car with 60 more horsepower (and AWD) for $5500 less - without even leaving the Subaru dealership.
Seems absurd, but its what COULD happen should you not shut this shit down NOW
It’s not “specification.” It’s entire categories of vehicles. You cannot make big 4x4 trucks with giant engines and maintain a 50mpg corporate average. There is significant demand for these products and they want to continue selling them.
I think it’s safe to argue the A will emit roughly twice as much as B.
This article and the Bloomberg article on which it’s based are very misleading. They make it sound as if the Trump EPA is challenging California’s authority to regulate auto emissions generally.
