Where did you read about abstainers and moderators? It’s interesting, with food I’m all or nothing (i.e. if there’s junk in the house I’m going to eat it - all of it). But to quit smoking I gradually tapered off, telling myself I could have one if I really needed it.

You forgot the part where you put it under the broiler. Right? Bliss....

I understand, and it’s why I struggle with my own feelings about the death penalty. Ultimately though, I just feel that the state shouldn’t decide who lives and dies. No matter how sterile and painless an execution is, it still smacks of barbarism and “eye for an eye” to me. As a (supposedly) civilized society we’re

Exactly! Wasn’t Chinese water torture supposed to work somewhat like this? The victim never knows when to expect another drop and the anticipation and uncertainty lead to insanity.

Thank you. I can’t believe they’re issuing stays for 10 minutes, 45 minutes, etc. Forget execution; being teased with your own imminent death like this seems like cruel and unusual punishment to me.

A stay was issued until 9:30 pm? It’s past that now, did I misunderstand or are we waiting for an update?

Good god these recaps are amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Same here! And for some reason I figured it was Lucy, that early hominid from Africa. Australiopithicus or something not remotely close to that?

I’m starting to think Skype is turning into one of those words like Kleenex, where people use a certain brand name to represent a whole category of things. Like my southern relatives referring to all soda as Coke. There’s actually a term for it, which of course I forget now.

No. You’re not the only one worried about it. A year ago I would have laughed at the thought of an American dictator refusing to step down. I don’t think anything would shock me now. I’ve really lost faith in the strength of America as an institution. We are so new, and so fragile, when you think about it. And I don’t

Yeah I was wondering if they can’t get you to 20/20 after your eyes hit a certain point. Correcting from-14.00 is impressive, though. Sometimes I wonder why evolution hasn’t weeded us out by now. I would have made a terrible cave woman. I can just picture myself out gathering berries and getting eaten by a lion I’d

It really sounds like a waking nightmare. I had pretty easy pregnancies, which was lucky since I am such a baby when I’m nauseated. I would have been begging for a medically induced coma.

Oh how sad, I had no idea that condition existed (thank you google). Now I’m really curious about her. Jane Eyre was my favorite of the Brontes’ books (though I was never a huge fan of that time period so “favorite” is relative). Maybe I’ll try re-reading it now.

Yeah somebody else told me but thanks. I didn’t know there was a tax deduction! I guess I didn’t really know why the classification existed.

That definition for legally blind makes more sense. Bumping into walls vision is a great term! I guess at -4.00 my vision is more ‘I can see things, I just can’t tell what they are vision.’ Which is why I leave my contacts in for months at a time (don’t tell my eye doc!)

I’m -4.00 in both eyes and reading is about the only thing I can do without my contacts. Though I’m sure I’ll need reading glasses any day now. Sigh.

I’m pretty sure British writers of the late 18th century were prohibited from dying by anything BUT consumption.

Does that count as legally blind? My grandfather was somewhere close to you. Might have been 8.00 even?!

I think the problem is that we have conflated the meaning of “hummus” with “dip” or “spread.” Also, is this space safe enough for me to confess to enjoying tahini and jelly sandwiches? It tastes like peanut butter. Say it doesn’t!

This is wonderful Greta! I hope you’ll stick with writing; you clearly have a knack for it. Also, there was a fox hanging out in our backyard last weekend! When I see him again I’ll say hi for you. :)
